For LOS onsquares my friend and I measure center to center with a string. It works well even ifit looks off. And terrain is WYSIWYG so a square may be only partially wooded for LOS but is considered filled with trees for combat purposes, etc. |

Thanks crispy, I've also looked into the D&D approach of one corner of the attacker seeing 1 corner of the defender; with the defender being classed in the open if the attacker's corner can see all 4 corners of the defender without crossing an obstacle |

That looks great! But for checking LoS, don't use string — this is SciFi, get thee a $5 USD line level laser at Harbor Freight ^,^ Measuring corner to corner on a grid makes finding your marks easy and consistent. |

Is that vinyl flooring you are using for the pavement? Brilliant! |

The playing surface is 4 of the Mantic vinyl playmats for the Deadzone miniatures game. Each mat is 2foot by 2 foot. The mat is split into an 8x8 grid, with each square being about 8cm along each edge. The mats are very versatile and quite robust. The mats roll easily up and lay flat when put on the table. I agree with your comments guys, the mats are a simple, but effective way of getting your games started. |

Thanks fox. Next cycle I'm gonna get some of those. Frp games has a nice vinyl mat from hcd supplies that is 4x4. On double checking their is no pic now and it says preorder…I snagged one a few weeks ago. I can post a pic if any one wants. |
