This post is primarily for those of you who play and enjoy the game Commands & Colors. I love this game and would ask the opinion of similar minded war gamers. I'd like to expand my interest into Napoleonic war gaming by trying other more complex rule sets and eventually build a miniature army. What rules and figures do you recommend? I know this is a huge topic, but I haven't seen any recent rules discussions on this forum lately so I thought I would start one. |

I actually use my own set of complex rules with the C&C pieces and board. I travel for work so space is at a premium. You could always test run some rules sets with the C&C stuff…easier and far cheaper than miniatures. just a thought….Good Luck |

I also love C&C, beyond that Sam Mustafa's recent rules, Lasalle and Blucher, I would recommend because they are not complex, playable and so well-written and presented. Blucher is grand tactical (a unit is a brigade, you control an army) whereas Lasalle is more operational in scale (a unit is a battalion, you perhaps control a corps). Blucher has the added advantage that you can play it with the lovely unit cards while you are building your miniature army. Blucher also does battles at a similar scale as C&C usually portrays them. An alternative would be Black Powder which is fun to read, easy to play and generic enough to cover many periods. |

Another vote for Blucher from a C&C Napoleonics player. |

I like the Napoleonic rules from Neil Thomas's Wargames an Introduction, to which I've added a few bits taken from his Napoleonic book (I much prefer simple rules). As to figures most of my collection is 15mm, but I've recently completed some 6mm armies (for portability). |

Another Blucher vote. Only played it once but intend on buying it from that one playing. I also purchased but not yet played Black Powder and plan on using it, with the firing rules from Blucher (move = no firing). For even lower level I have Sharpe Practice from Too Fat Lardies, an excellent set of rules. |

I play Blucher and LaSalle with the same 6mm figures and terrain I use with C&CN. I like all three systems equally and the choice of which one to use usually falls to the taste of who I'm playing. |

One person at our club plays C&C with figures, and has used the same bases for Blucher. |

I've decided C&C will be my Napoleonics game at my place, but I'm in a club that uses 6mm and Polemos-derived rules, and play with another group of guys who use 15mm and home-brew rules. At a smaller gaming scale, I also have a Sharpe Practice project (in 3mm!) for a company per side, and Songs of Drums and Shakos in 15mm, for a dozen guys per side. |

As an Old Fart, I am fairly happy with the relatively quick playing C&CN system. My group also likes "Napoleon at War" for a more complex system. |

We play all the CnC rules, Ancients is probably my favourite set although we play a lot Memoir 44 too. I've heavily nodded it though. Otherwise we play any and everything. Big fan of Neil Thomas various rulebooks at present, which include Napoleonics. |
