"Oh, sorry, what's that you say about the Oscar race? This movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy and is directed and co-written by newly minted Academy Award winner Alejandro González Iñárritu. That's right, DiCaprio intensity meets Birdman crazy. Revenant is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Punke, and tells the story of a fur trapper in the 19th century American wilderness who goes on a revenge tear after his associate (played by Hardy) robs him and leaves him do die after a bear attack. The wilderness, am I right? And here is some bonus material for you: The about-to-be-major Domhnall Gleeson and the up-and-coming Will Poulter will also star, and Iñárritu is rejoined by his Birdman cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. Because filming a movie like this with super grizzly actors like DiCaprio and Hardy wasn't enough, the director and cameraman decided to raise the stakes visually by shooting only in natural light, regardless of how remote the locations were. Are we having fun yet??"

Just read up on the man it is based on. One tough bastard. After being abandon, he crawled for 6 weeks to reach an outpost. One leg broken and most of his ribs on his back exposed due to the attack. He placed maggots in the wound on his back to eat the dead flesh and when some friendly natives found him, he had them sew a bear skin to his back to cover the open wound.

DiCaprio playing a guy like that really???? These modern actors can't play hard men. compare a Lee Marvin sneer with Brad Pitt pout. No comparison

I'd say Leonardo Di Caprio will be quite up to the task.
He might not have the rough physique of a Lee Marvin or Charle Bronson but he'll probably be able to ACT rough.

I'm always happy to see new movies of this era produced. There haven't been many since the 70's.

But what I saw in the trailer, not sure how true to the real story it will be. Think this one could be very artsee fartsee. Still, it may be a good Mountain man movie.
