Mine is definitely "Mad Max:the Road Warrior", however "Mad Max: Fury Road" is a close second. Are there any "Thunderdome" fans out there or "Mad Max 1" purists? |

Fury Road edges TRW for its higher production value and grittier action sequences, but it isn't really fair to compare the two since FR had a much bigger budget and over 30 years of Hollywood experience. |

Mad Max (1979) – Actually a pre-apocalyptic story, this one introduces Max and presents his origin story. The most anarchic of the lot, the ending was a shocker at the time. I rate it second overall. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) – Defines the series' post-apocalyptic setting, and cements its "scavenger punk" aesthetic. The mix of kinetic action and black humor is spot-on. First in my estimation. Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985) – The biggest movie of the original three, it excels in its worldbuilding but isn't quite as tight as the other films; it has a different pace. The (comparatively) low-key ending didn't suit me at the time, but I have come to respect it. Reluctantly, I place it third. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) – Easily the greatest spectacle of the series, Fury Road goes on a bit long for my taste. It also doesn't feature enough Max (and at that, he spends much of the movie as a hood ornament). I place it as an honorary fifth (a 21st century film should get better mileage!) Ron |

I wish they'd redub Mad Max. As cinema it's fine but you can't understand anyone. Well maybe an Aussie does better with that. Fury Road then Road Warrior then *shudder* Thunderdome the Mad Max. |
chironex | 23 Jul 2015 5:17 a.m. PST |
It was first released outside Australia with a dodgy American dub. The original voices on more modern releases are due to the fact that we want to see an Australian movie spoken in Australian English instead of dodgy drawls and silly voices. |

Road Warrior hands down, followed by Mad Max but just because Road Warrior is just brilliant. Thunderdome and Fury Road are tied for me, one is meh because of the ewoks, err… kids and the other because it suffers from an all too common illness for contemporary films: great effects, great action, no plot, no real suspense. |

1) Road Warrior: Very much defined the series and frankly genra as we know it. 2) Fury Road: A reminder of how much more awesome post-apocalyptic movies with big fast cars are than yet another ing zombie movie. 3) Mad Max: It introduced the character and the series and serves as good backstory 4) Thunderdome: Frankly I found it slow and tiresome. It was very Hollywood in a series that is best when it tells Hollywood to dire in a screaming car wreck. |
