"Advice/Information Requested on 3D" Topic

Gentlemen of the Host ( and/or Ladies ) ;

I need some information or advice. I work with larger figures, 1/32 and 1/30th primarily, and mostly plastics. I do a lot of conversions but would like to do more and require some nice weapons. I have seen a set available in 1/48th scale from a Shapeways store ( link ) that are similar to what I want, but I can't see a contact method to request or enquire about a larger scale.

So, here's my question: Are the 3D files built from "scratch", by using stock photos converted to 3D files, or by scanning originals to obtain a 3D file? I own 1:1 scale originals of all of the weapons that I am wanting and could have them scanned or photographed if necessary. They include an original 1897 Winchester shotgun ( various barrel lengths ) , an 1894 Winchester ( both carbine and rifle ) , an 1884 Springfield rifle, several 1873 Colt Peacemakers in various barrel lengths ( and Rugers ) , both Smith & Wesson and Colt large frame revolvers ( 1909, 1917 ) , Model 1911 autos and double barrel shotguns. I can also borrow a Spencer carbine repro, both 1866 and 1873 Winchester repros, all of the various Colt and Remington black powder revolvers, and others. By using 1/30th scale, these would work with most commercial 54mm and all of the various 54-60mm toy soldiers out there. I know several other modelers and collectors out there who would also like these weapons.

So, any thoughts? Anybody know how to contact a Shapeways dealer called Peolini Design to see if they would want to do them? Any help would be appreciated.

any file made for 3d printing should be easily scaled up or down, I have had several models from shapeways scaled to my requirements over the last few years.
get in touch with the seller via personal messages and see what they say
warning some never respond at all and other take a while though.

I have not done this myself.
But here is a link to a way to use a digital camera to capture images that can be converted into 3D shape files.
Once an object is converted into a shape file, it can be scaled to almost anything you like and Shapeways can print it for you.

This is a the 123D Catch process.

Hi, I am a professional 3D artist working primarily with 3D printing. Unfortunately shapeways doesn't offer the best methods for contacting the artist.

All 3D models are scale-able if you have the right software.

123D Catch is a method for 3D scanning, that is ok. The scans aren't the best quality and need to be cleaned up a lot if you want to create something that matches the weapon you want perfectly.

I do have a system for 3D scanning based on photos that is a much higher quality scan than 123D catch. With a series of high resolution images, I can create something to match perfectly with the original which will then be scale-able to any size you want.
