They're looking very nice. I have no idea who they fought or when, but they are unquestionably a colourful bunch--a refreshing change on the more common colonial forces. Who makes the figures? |
Oh Bugger | 18 Jul 2015 11:45 a.m. PST |
Thanks Daryl they are Irregular 15mm. You can use them to fight the Russians, British, Turks or Afghans. Mine are for the mid C19th but they could be used for earlier. The infantry were often accompanied by these guys.

Thank you for the information. Very interesting indeed; and I love those hats! |

Khurasan Miniatures just cam out with Persians. Their uniform is good up to 1860. You can fight Russians & British & perhaps Turks. |

Yeah the hats are very cool. The flag is from a photograph of a Qajar flag in a museum. It is a very interesting image given the Islamic artistic prohibitions on depicting humans and animals. Khurasan are sadly 18mm otherwise I would have bought some to add to the mix. |

Looking good If you want super authenticity you could put a silver hand- of- Ali finial atop the flag pole. I _think_ infantry flags have the silver hands and cavalry a point, but this may not be universal. I'm doing my Russian deserters in green uniforms, but Mr Oh's red is also an option for them and the Persian guards unit. ( my booklet on the Qaja army is now about 120 pages, working through an 'enemies and battles' section having done Russian, Turk, Brit and Georgian and onto the Caucasus Khanates) Regards David F Brown |

Thanks David. A silver hand I never knew that. That would be a nice touch. I did know about the Caucasus Khanates and the Georgians as enemies and I should have said so as Irregular make them in 15mm. I hope you will keep us posted on your book it sounds great. |

I've posted a few scraps about my book on the napoleonic disussions here, the period is from the rise of the Qajar to the Anglo-Persian war, albeit I'm calling it the 'Persian army of the napoleonic era.' I didn't know irregular made Georgians, I'll have to check them out. I have a large section on the Georgians and recently found translations of some of the Kings orders during the war with Persia, which meant I had to re-draft several pages, and happily so. I haven't really started an army build yet, I'll probably mix Khorasan, Irregular and convert/ sculpt any gaps, my few Russians are converted ABs David F Brown |

Many thanks for the pics, I see they had a go at making some Khevsaur highlanders in armour. I was thinking of converting from First Crusaders or similar. Db |

No problem, yes they did. If you are going to convert I'd suggest you start with figures in mail and mirror armour. Maybe Moghuls or some such. |

Great job with these miniatures, and I applaud your effort to explore a much-neglected empire and its fascinating military history. Not to get too political, but I think we'd all gain a greater understanding of modern Iran and Central Asia by studying the history of this empire and its neighbors over the past several hundred years. |

Thanks. I think that's one of the joys of the hobby we find out stuff that most folk don't know about. |
