Would the Grenadiers and the Light Infantry in the Spanish regular army circa 1808 be in separate units, or would they be part of their regiment. In other words, should I have separate units of Spanish Grenadiers or Light Infantry?

Grenadiers appeared either with their parent battalions, as detached, converged units, or as permanently organized grenadier battalions. The lights in 1808 were in separate battalions. Organic light companies in line battalions appeared after various re-organizations from 1810 onwards.

The topic of Spanish grenadiers has come up from time-to-time. Here are a couple of relevant past discussions:

Hi Danny

The number one rule with the Spanish army 1808-1814 i s there are no rules.

There were units organized along British lines with flank companies of grenadiers and lights. These would be part kf the battalions.

But sometimes they were converged. There were also grenadier battalions. Some were from the old Royal army and others were newly raised by the juntas. Some were militia units! Some weren't. Then there were the guard units like the Walloon guards.
