The Nonesuch record "Military Fanfares, Marches, & Choruses From the Time of Napoleon." I still have my copy but I no longer have a turntable!

+1 for Repiqueone.

Loads of contemporary folk songs about the wars, Napoleon or soldering so a homemade mix would be best.

The Sharpe music CD is good too with its mix of marches and folky things on it.

Ironically, Bob Cordery over at Wargaming Miscellany recently posted about a Napoleonic song. You can find it here:

Last time I played Napoleonic game the host played the Lord of the rings film soundtrack .
It played seamlessly in the background and occasionally matched certain events during the battle very well.

It is now in my music collection.
I suppose The Symphony Number 5 in C minor of Ludwig van Beethoven is probably the go to aswell.

I'm partial to Military Marches. On YouTube there are numerous long playing marches from various nations.

During one of my Napoleonic miniatures battles, I was playing the British. I had a small pocket music player with small earphones. When one of the Highland battalions started advancing, I cranked up the sound and out of the little earphones you could hear the pipes playing "Scotland the Brave." The French player heard the music, couldn't locate it, but it sounded like it was coming from the miniature Highland battalion. Scared the French!!

I'm currently listening to "The Greatest British Marches."

Several years ago a I got a CD titled "Echos De L'Epopee Imperiale" which contained dozens of French martial airs from the periods of the Consulate, First Empire, and Second Empire. Great stuff for a fan of the French Army like myself. Still play it frequently. The CD was produced in France and I believe I purchased it from The Emperor's Headquarters but I'm not sure if they are still in business. I believe the music might have gotten on some peoples' nerves however, so I stopped playing it during games. John Miller

Hi Bill, I posted on this subject on my blog:

… the music I opted for (some of which is used in the Sergei Bondarchuk Waterloo movie starring Rod Steiger) is 'Airs Militaires Ancien', by Musique De L'Air.

Most of the music on this disc is French Napoleonic stuff (though there's some even earlier stuff), so spot on if you're gaming with French forces.

I bought mine as digital downloads from Amazon UK.

Regards

Sebastian
