Yes, this is a SPOILER topic,]But if you don't know what happened in Sesaon 5 Episode 10, no SPOILER is safe. Obviously, there is a vacancy now, and we need a new Lord Commander for the Night's Watch. I would suggest that all the assassins have disqualified themselves. Promotion by assassination should be forbidden in the by-laws, or what a precedent that would make. As much as I think Ser Alliser would be in ordinary times a decent commander, he is out. So is Bowen Marsh. (Important book character, a mere spear carrier in the HBO show.) Hee wielded a knofe. Sam is out of things. He just left for the Citadel, WITH A WOMAN. Ser Denys Mallister? He came in third, but that wopuld be like the Republicans nominating Bob Dole because it was his turn. He's only 96 years old. That leaves … Dolorous Edd Tollett. One of my favorite characters and a Snowite. But why confine ourselves to members of the Night's Watch? How about a quick induction and vote in Ser Davos? He's a decent honorable man, and with fine leadership qualifications. A good fighter and saw the need to reinforce the Wall. He has my vote. And he would be neither a Snowite or a Thornist. What say you, Brothers, now that Lord Commander Snow's watch has ended? |

Ser Davos is currently unemployed. His resume fits the bill ,including being a former scoundrel ,which is a major requirement in joining the Watch. |

It's been over twenty years, but I'm still not gonna make the obvious presidential joke… |

Who's to say Jon will give it up? ;-) Strongly suspect that opening will not stay vacant on his account. That said, even if he is brought back, it seems to me he is now released from his vow, and maybe free to pursue a certain pointy chair? Hard to say. We now leave the books behind… |

Have to say, OFM, that I think you seriously overestimate Thorne's leadership qualities. He has pettiness, vindictiveness in large amounts which are barely offset by fighting skill and courage. None of the charisma of the Old Bear. I'd imagine he's not far froma knife in the back from a crow annoyed at doing latrine duty again because he has a fancy name or is actually capable. I think there will probably be a short lived Thorne regime and then the "Old" watch will cease to exist either in a bone headed attack on the Wildlings because "it's what we do" or in a deluge of Whitewalkers. Equally they could be purged by Davos, Jon Was Snow, or even Stannis if he wasn't killed by Brienne. Either way, Thorne, Olly and Co deserve the fate usually reserved for murdering mutineers. A "New" watch will then emerge as part of the defence vs the Others. That presumes such a defence gets mounted this early into the end game and does somewhat need Jon Snow to be alive, somehow. |

I don't. See Davis walking away from his family or is that only in the books? |

Think Davos will be on his way to find the last Stark heir as the only hope for the world. After all isn't there some legend that their must be a Stark in Winterfell . |

I hear that Snow may be reincarnated. I hope not. I kinda think it will be the leader of the Wildings, after they kill off the remainder of the Nights Watch. He knows what's coming. And he knows you can run but you can't hide from it. |
