Now THAT is a pike block! Very impressive--the enemies of the Empire must be quaking in their boots. Rob |

Very, very nice. I want to play in your games. Those pikes are preternaturally straight, so I'm guessing they're wire. A clumsy moment while reaching across the pike block could put real blood on the battlefield… Did you make them or buy them? - Ix |

Cheers for the comments guys. Yellow Admiral the Pikes are made from florists wire that I have cut to the correct length. They aren't sharp as there would indeed be real blood if they were. I still managed to get a few straight in my forehead when I was rebasing the figures and leant down from my painting desk to pick something up! |

That's jaw dropping at 28mm. Can you possibly imagine what the real thing looked like ? |

Amazing. Makes my Ral Partha Pikes look way too small. Great paint job and flags. Just out of curiosity does anyone know the likely casualties such a block might receive in a major action? How effective were this sort of "unit"? Sorry i'm not sure if a pike block was a regiment or company. |

> likely casualties such a block might receive in a major action? Judging from the Swabian and Italian wars, around 30-40% if you were on the losing side and able to retreat. 90%+ if not able to retreat, like at Pavia where the Black band was practically annihilated, or at Ceresole where they were surrounded and managed to surrender. The "winning" side gets between 1% and up to 30%. Just from memory, without checking the actual ybooks. |

It's not often that something makes a Renaissance Swiss pike block look puny, but that certainly does! Excellent effort. |
