I was sure there would be rules to cover these, I may be being stupid (possible) however I cannot locate any.

How do players represent these in their games, mearly double the guns and fire as two batteries?

Cheers

I don't know to any, but has one gun is a battery in BP I assume you would have a model for each in your Grand Battery. I do remember a scenario somewhere, it had a five? gun grand battery located off table and I believe was counted has a seperate brigade for orders.

What is a Grand Battery other than several batteries next to each other?
And in Black Powder there is every incentive for players to do so, as the cumulative effect of a couple of batteries can demolish enemy units in short order.

For the French a Grand Battery was under the command of one general officer and acted as a cohesive unit with a specific fire mission.

According to Arnold in his new book, Napoleon 1813, even as late as the spring 1813 battles, when the Russians and Prussians assembled large numbers of batteries together, there was no unified command. The batteries fired at individual targets of opportunity. Thus, there was a very large difference between a French Grand Battery and anything the Allies did, at least up to that time.

Confess I always wondered about a "Grand Battery"……….now I know

My group used to have 'house rules' for deploying a grand battery with Black Powder, adding the value of 1 extra firing dice for every additional battery over 3 in base to base contact and firing at the same target.

However we abandoned this for our Waterloo mega game as we think there's no need, as Paul points out.
