How many hours per week do you spend on miniature wargaming? |

Pushing lead or collateral "stuff" – e.g. browsing, reading, painting, purchasing? Pushing lead: 0 due to temporary circumstances beyond my control. Collateral "stuff": probably around 12. |

Being disabled, I find I have time for my hobbies that many might be envious of… I spend about six hours a day, six days a week. Plus ten hours on Thursdays. So, about 47 hours a week. That number increases if I manage to go to the gamestore on Saturday, or if a friend comes to my place for a game on that day. On such weeks I can spend as much as 50 hours on miniature gaming. |

10 or more depending on the work load. That's all aspects. Reading. Writing. Painting. Playing. Probably in order of consumption. Playing is a distant 4th. |

All of most weekends if you count painting and basing. Therefore, about 16-20. |
Leon Pendraken | 13 Jul 2015 6:03 p.m. PST |
About 80… and not a single one of them painting, reading or gaming with anything! |
huron725 | 13 Jul 2015 6:11 p.m. PST |
I would guess about 5 hours/week – mostly weekends when it is not sunny outside. 50/50 painting/gaming |

Actual gaming? About zero hours per week on average. I tentatively have my first Bolt Action game scheduled for this Wednesday. |

Regularly scheduled, I have a Friday evening D&D which I DM (5 hours), a Saturday evening D&D which I play in (7 hours), and a weekend daytime Warhammer Fantasy (6 hours), or 18 hours playing, per month. Call that 10 times per year for each since sometimes the schedule gets too difficult. Painting, modelling, and reading game books, varies by how tired I am after work and putting kids to bed. Some weeks 8 hours, more weeks none. Call it 10 hours per month. Online miniature gaming activities (reading, posting, emailing, scheduling), er, um, an hour per night? So that's 18x10 + 10x12 + 1x365 = 665 per year / 52 weeks = 12-13 hours per week. |

I'd say it falls between 8-16 hours per week on average depending on business travel and home chore demands. |
Meiczyslaw | 13 Jul 2015 8:59 p.m. PST |
I have no clue what my average is, especially since I had another binge weekend that worked out to about 40 hours over three days. But I'm in that same space as Pendraken, but with rules. |

As others have noted this question has two parts to the answer. When I was younger I was interviewed by a reporter from a newspaper who was writing about the hobby of wargaming. She asked me what wargaming was about, what activities did I do, what did other people do and general questions about the hobby. After about an hour she summarize what we had discussed and made a very astute statement, she said that it seemed to her that my hobby was not wargaming, but rather it was "getting ready to play a Wargame." indeed that was true. I spent 2-3 hours at most every couple of weeks playing a game. Then I spent a couple hours a day "getting ready to play wargames, " including reading the rules, reading history, painting, organizing troops, planning orders, making terrain, doing conversions of figures. Now that I am retired I spend even more time getting ready to play games. Reading the miniatures page, Fanaticus, Various Yahoo groups, corresponding with friends takes up a lot of time, I'm also trying to make an inventory of my 50 some thousand figures. I have thousands of pages of battle reports, gaming articles, written correspondence, digital files, photographs, that I am trying to put into some kind of order. I am still doing those other game related activities regarding figures and terrain. Now I spent probably 4 to 5, maybe six hours a day in activities related to wargaming, but still only three or four hours every couple of weeks actually playing games plus travel time , a half an hour to 45 minutes per game. I once made a comment to a colleague that wargaming (and getting ready to play wargames) constitutes a life activity. I said that I was in the wargame life. |

I spend far more time reading, thinking and painting than I do playing. Playing averages a couple of hours a week, maybe. |
Doctor X | 13 Jul 2015 11:21 p.m. PST |
I think I put 3-4x as many hours into painting, planning, researching, etc as playing. Total hobby time per week 15-20 hours. |
christot | 14 Jul 2015 2:19 a.m. PST |
Time spent reading and thinking and a bit of painting far outweighs time playing…Also I don't play every week or even every month, but when I do play, it tends to be for an entire weekend or even longer…so how many hours a year spent playing is the question..and I don't know the answer..and I'm not sure I want to know ;-) |

Average 6-7. Pattern ~4 a week three weekends a month with mostly family or maybe one friend and one ~12 hour game day with 8-12 people once a month. |

Pushing lead 2/3 hours a week collateral "stuff" (browsing, reading, painting, purchasing) 1 hour/day so about 10 hours a week Alex |

9-12 depending on the week. This includes readiung TMP and other sites, shopping on line, painting and the 2 hours playing 2-3 times a month. |
boy wundyr x | 14 Jul 2015 6:24 a.m. PST |
I usually play two full day games a month, so say an average of 3-4 hours a week of actual gaming, and maybe 14-20 hours a week of painting/planning/prepping/modelling. |
Rdfraf | 14 Jul 2015 6:48 a.m. PST |
4 hours in gaming. Painting varies. |
PVT641 | 14 Jul 2015 7:44 a.m. PST |
4-6 hours a week painting. 5 hours a month playing. |

About 28 hours but the majority of that comes from background narrative, organization, research and modelling. Only about 1 to 4 hours per week spent gaming or painting. |

Depends. 20-30 depending. Given that it's my source of income and I treat it as a part time job, that seems reasonable. |

21eRegt | 14 Jul 2015 5:00 p.m. PST |
Actual playing – 4-5 hours a week. Related activities like painting and modeling would add in another 7-8. Some weeks are better than others, some are worse. |
