Ok, there is no perfect rules. But what part from different rules do you think is best for ancient battles?

My perfect rules would have:
Movement rules from "To the Strongest"
Command & control from "Hail Caesar"
Melee, Shooting & Morale from "Hail Caesar"
Scenarios from "Lost Battles"
Victory conditions from my own rules

The fun and simplicity from The Sword and the Flame.

The 'perfect' set of Ancients rules would have to have a time machine included. And batteries. Lots of batteries, for the trip back.

Adaptation of blitzkrieg commander but NOT hail caesar or Warmaster.

Something simple. DBA. Throw me a 6. Tony Bath Ancients for something more meaty. Maybe the latter with Charlie Wessencraft's morale/efficiency rules worked in.

The rules of DBA but with the support of two fat lardies or genesha games. Those folks answer every question that turns up on their Yahoo group. Ask Phil a question and he says just read the rule. This seems to me to be like in the music man if you read it enough times you'll understand it. The "think system of rule reading".

By the way Nick, I have play the ancient games with the sword and the flame. The Romans were the colonial power in the ancient Britons where the native people.

Looks good to me. Why not just paste them together and give it a try? I, for one, would like to know how that would turn out.

Command and control and movement from DBA and combat results from CCA.

Not a great fan of'cut and pasting' rules together without being very careful to make sure that things balance out (eg quantity of shooting v movement). I'm enjoying 'Sword and Spear' at the moment.

Good point but there's no better way than to give them a try. If it doesn't work, change them or move on.

I also like Sword and Spear.

I was just thinking as I scrolled down 'Sword and Spear'!!
