"The first very long and unexpectedly stunning trailer for MTV's epic TV series THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES has been revealed and it seems our worries that MTV might do it wrong weren't justified, at least judging from the first scenes and mind blowing sets and visuals! Arriving to the small screens next January, the television adaptation of Terry Brooks popular epic fantasy novels will follow Elven princes and princesses trying to save the post apocalyptic world fighting with Humans against Demons. The ten episode first season has been shot over at New Zealand so the look is very reminiscent of LORD OF THE RINGS movies. Manu Bennett, Poppy Drayton, John Rhys Davies, Ivana Baquero, Daniel MacPherson lead the cast!"

Well that looks really, really good. My wife is also very intrigued. Thanks for that

The one word in this that REALLY scares me is MTV. I actually used to watch MTV in the early 80's when they played music. Now I think of reality shows. Will Flavor Flav be in the SHANNARA CHRONICLES?

I agree. I'm worried by the fact that it's MTV. The Shannara series was/is very family friendly, but I'm worried that they will try and turn it into "Game of Thrones"

I do have to say that some of the movies that they made weren't that bad, so there is some hope.

Still, the preview looked very good!

Jon Faverau is the Exec Producer, I suspect he may have a good vision. I'm fairly certain he will not want his name on "questionable" quality

Hmm, I recollect the 1st 2 books (all I read of this series) being very boring, and I suspect that this will be more aimed at the teen market.

Glad you like it my friend.

The plot was very similar to LOTR and so they added a chapter where the party found a ruined 20th century city – to avoid getting sued was the news story at the time. I think the problem was that they were so bland and dull books, many felt the only reason they could have been published was to cash in on LOTR.

Of all the great stories that exist, like Jack Vance's stuff for example, why would anyone want to do Shannara?

Col Durnford15 Jul 2015 10:40 a.m. PST

I believe they are doing the second book. The reason given was that there were no major roles for women in the first book. I do agree the first book was just a quick version of LOTR.
