It is, IMHO, one of the best naval museums in the world. That it's in one of the worlds most land locked capitals is very strange. I seem to remember that it still one of the Spanish Navy's establishments, doesn't open every day or only opens for part of the day (mornings only?), and you need to show your passport to get in. I remember failing to get in the first time I went, for some reason, and had to go back on the following day. I went several years ago so my memory may be off or things might have changed. |

The few pictures I shared could never do the museum justice. The hours seemed reasonable in July 10pm to 5pm but august it closes at 3pm? Strange….. It's a no miss for wargammers visiting the city. El Wingnut |

Nice set of pictures! Strange that it is in Madrid, miles from the sea? |

Haven't been to Madrid, but the Barcelona museum is quite good, and has a full size replica of Don Juan's flagship at Lepanto. Standing on the ship really made me realise just how fragile galleys were. It's well worth a visit. |

Strange that it is in Madrid, miles from the sea? Yep. For a country with so much coastline / many ports. Down to centralised powers of state, I guess. Standing on the ship really made me realise just how fragile galleys were. It's well worth a visit. Agreed. I'll be revisiting it later this year. Hopefully the huge glass screen they use to project the rowers at work, superimposed and viewed from the gallery above the stern of the ship, will be working again this time (3rd visit to the museum); it was broken the last time I went. |
