I've just posted pics of a newly finished cavalry unit from Boki Miniatures, and as you can see, these are as good as AB!

More pictures on my blog, here… link

Thanks for looking,
Colin

von Winterfeldt12 Jul 2015 8:12 a.m. PST

they look great, I see you used the trumpeter and officer from AB.

Eclipsing Binaries12 Jul 2015 8:13 a.m. PST

Yes, but only because Sho Boki doesn't have his done yet, and they mixed in perfectly.

Davoust12 Jul 2015 8:33 a.m. PST

When I restart my French Rev armies, I will be getting some of these.

Hope the line continues to expand.

Eclipsing Binaries12 Jul 2015 8:33 a.m. PST

He has new figures out today.

Knob12 Jul 2015 1:41 p.m. PST

These are very nice figures indeed.

Thanks, Colin. You do a great job!

carojon13 Jul 2015 12:09 a.m. PST

Very nice Colin, good job. I look forward to the Sho Boki Peninsular War range

What troops do you have in your mind, Carojon?
I only humble try to fill the gaps in AB wonderful lines, as AB quit with 15(18)mm napoleonics, and Peninsula are pretty well covered by AB.

Eclipsing Binaries13 Jul 2015 2:42 a.m. PST

I think what's maybe missing from the Peninsula is cavalry in campaign dress.

I was going to suggest Austrian cavalry in greatcoat/cloak as that's something you don't see much off. So maybe the same for mixing with existing Peninsula ranges? Just a thought.

von Winterfeldt13 Jul 2015 4:40 a.m. PST

there are much bigger gaps in other periods, like French Revolution – I would opt to fill the big gaps first.

My fingers tell me that after I finish current projects, I probably do French line infantry (Revolution, Egypt).
And riders with cloaks are good idea too.

Eclipsing Binaries13 Jul 2015 10:43 a.m. PST

Egypt would be great, but remember that the Black Hat range may become available from Fighting 15s again at some point.

I'd be interested in both Revolutionary or Egyptian campaign French, especially if you also did generals and mounted officers.

carojon13 Jul 2015 11:52 a.m. PST

I was thinking particularly of special figures that break up the uniformity of a unit as well as some gaps in current ranges The Spanish are the obvious candidates with post 1809 changes for the cavalry with French hussar dress riding shabraque instead of sheepskins, French infantry using Spanish clothing such as Spanish Grenadier bearskins French mounted Dragoons with forage netting bags, Early war British in leggings, infantry and riflemen. Some personality general officers like a really nice King Joseph/Jordan command group or Cuesta plus carriage and mules and the big one, oxen kitted out for artillery hauling

von Winterfeldt13 Jul 2015 1:39 p.m. PST

for French line infantry as well as Egypt I have plenty of material to enable to do a good line.

I understand, Carojon. This is gourmands figures and are available in my Shop page through last entry for gourmands and impatients.

carojon14 Jul 2015 2:53 a.m. PST

Ok yes I see.
I love the idea of being a gourmand when it comes to figures.

Well I'm rather focussed on getting Talavera French and Spanish infantry finished off at the moment, but I will get back in touch with some ideas about the stuff identified.

Eclipsing Binaries14 Jul 2015 3:12 a.m. PST

That's a good list of idea from Carajon and I like the idea of "special" figures used to enhance a unit, just the ABs "enthusiastic" French.

Sho boki
To make your biz worth you should focus on unusual stuff people will want some of.
To supplement the big boys AB and Bluemoon. That people will buy at higher price than the line troops.

Grenz gunners
More generals, colonels.
Heroic poses, hatless wounded….
The forever missing rgt of Württemberg horse.
Gendarme d'élite.
Dismounted cavalry
Russian militia
Sharpe characters
Garde nationales 1814 in part civilian dress.

von Winterfeldt14 Jul 2015 2:34 p.m. PST

Grenzer gunners are available from AB

Jcfrog15 Jul 2015 2:09 a.m. PST

Oh I am late, never saw them advertized… Hey Nic…
Then they are for revolutionary period say till 1800.
Why would the 1805-1809 crews not wear the same uniform cut and headgear as the rest of the battalion?

Eclipsing Binaries15 Jul 2015 2:24 a.m. PST

Here's the AB Grenz gunners. I asked Mike at Fighting 15s if they were available and he's looking into why they never got added to the range in the UK.

Gendarmes d'élite sounds good. Must do these.

Jcfrog15 Jul 2015 6:10 a.m. PST

A few just for fun. They never fight. Priced as generals.

Your idea of doing the personalities with the proper face is brilliant.
I wonder if it sells though? Of course only Russians ( except for Murats that can be used for some as light cav ).
I know whenever I will be back to my toys Iwill order the whole shebam, probably twice to even do head swaps.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP15 Jul 2015 9:43 a.m. PST

So far only old Towarzcys almost covered his production costs and new pre-1798 Austrian Cavalry even give a little profit. All other projects, including Generals, are in deep loss. But I think they will be in zero after couple of years. I learned with them, how do sculpt and produce figures, and they expanded my lines to offer.

I think, that I do Gendarmes not only for wargame but also for diorama. This was colorful unit.

Jcfrog15 Jul 2015 1:29 p.m. PST

I am so astonished: maybe you don't have enough other stuff to generate an order for the generals that would ease up postage costs for far away customers ( which are most!) +it is all Russian or nothing.

so you won't finish your project. Snif.
Some of the French, Eugène Morand etc. might do. Many ( like me) already have their dose of Russian Generals… But it won't mean I won't get yours… And retrograde some others or sell them.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP15 Jul 2015 2:14 p.m. PST

Don't worry, I am very slow and just started with new producing equiptment almost year ago. Step by step I will grow. No rush.
