Hi, As I understand it Heavy cavalry wore leather gauntlet type gloves during combat. The light cavalry are stated as having gloves but the standard design, were those for parade dress or were they worn in combat as well? If I could get more specific, Bavarian chevaulegers officers wore heavy cavalry gauntlets in black, would the troopers have worn black equivalent gloves? cheers |

This Knoetel plate of the 7th in 1813 shows officer with white gauntlets, troopers with short white gloves:
Unfortunately, there are no illustrations of the Chevau Leger regiments is this particular set, probably in vacant numbers. He shows a dragoon in book 1 with no gloves at all, and later a 2nd Dragoon, again no gloves at all. Nothing conclusive here. GdeP |

only Cantler (not a contemporary source) shows those black gauntlets for CL officers, I didn't find them on contemporary pictues, here they along with NCOs did wear white ones, troopers often none, as can be said for no gloves also for officers in some battle paintings by Kobell, Hanau for example. |

Aaah! Cantler was who I was referencing off the Napoleon Series site. I see both Kobell and A.Adam depict without gloves, and Knotel has the officer in black gauntlets (again not contemporary). link
