As a miniature wargamer, my #1 hobby regret is…

Playing Battletech instead of the possible roll in the hay with Jill back in '92.

Somehow losing an entire 15mm Ren POW Polish army. Not to mention the trays of painted figures left behind in a move.

I try not to think of such things.

…not having two lifetimes: one to paint and one to game.

I've had a few.
But that's to say, not in a shy way…

Spending the first part of my wargaming time so far with exclusively 40k. Thankfully my History teacher set me straight before I left education.

Leaving a 25mm Byzantine army on the subway back in the 70s.

None so far….

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Selling various painted figs and or armies and now wishing I never did.

not getting all I wanted painted before losing the ability. :(

Probably trying to collect too much stuff.

Investing a very hard earned $5,000 USD in a miniatures company I really liked and trusted. He sells the company to someone else and moves to France. My shares and others like me worthless. Living in the USA it seemed to be to hard to follow up legally. The company has since been sold twice more.

Not dropping the toxic group of Gamers I played with for 10 years and not getting into Imagi-Nations sooner.

Not spending enough time enjoying the hobby

Selling a large, painted 15mm SYW collection.

Not having a focus and as a result buying way too much stuff of no value to me.

Probably not spending enough time assembling, painting, and gaming with all those nice 20mm armored vehicles I purchased many years ago.

Not spending more time working on project so I can actually use them.

OTOH I've also got projects that have been completed that I've still not used, so not a great track record all the way around.

Procrastinating and not painting when I am bored and have nothing better to do.

Getting out of it for 15 years and losing touch with that group of gamers.

No regrets. Every misstep and error has taught me something valuable that I may not have learned any other way.

I would have expected to read at least a few posts that mentioned not playing enough games with all the figures that were acquired and painted.

From other sources than TMP I have heard that guys rarely get to play. Lack of time or opponents are the usual causes.

Having too much stuff to deal with. It's just out of control.

I've been pretty disciplined over my 24 years of collecting and only have 5 collections. That said, I have a hue pile of unpainted figures for these. I've never been able to pass up a bargain so there is not too much of a plan to these collections. Later in life I started to want to represent actual OOBs on my tables which the right units etc. I am less happy with my compromises and also realize 28mm figures at 1:25 are just too big to represent battles I want to do with the rules I like to use. The funny thing is the first few years of the hobby I started out with 15mm stuff and regretted not having the easier to see, more detailed 28mm figures so eventually I up-sized and sold off the little guys. Not sure I would have done that has I stated out with AB, Blue Moon etc. One of my collections is 40mm AWI and I was so enthused about them at one point that I considered selling everything off and just going with this scale. The grass always seems greener with another scale for me and I know this so I try to be careful with my decisions. Usually all it takes to get back on track is to go down to the war-room and have a look at my beautiful collections or have a game with them…then I say.."what was I thinking".

Not gaming, not cultivating a group to game with, and working too many hours and traveling way too much. All my own fault.

Lack of focus in period/genre/scale earlier in my early miniature war game experience life but 3mm wasn't available in the 1970s.

Done and dusted, then again regret is all too human and I am one of those :D now where to get that $200 USD for my next lead fix ;)

Selling off any miniature or terrain piece that I ever had that was painted and ready to play with. :(

Not the patience to actually finish a project.

I go all out on a project, acquire figures, assemble if necessary, base, paint, not finish enough to do anything with, then start again on another project….

Repeat.

Repeat.

Repeat.

On the other hand, I sure do have a shed full of half finished projects. Good thing I will live forever with all the unpainted lead I have, Right?

Buying those squatty, ugly, British colonials 25ish years ago. Gawd, they were awful! Makes me shudder just remembering those nasty little trolls! What was I thinking?! They were so bad I had to pitch 'em out. Seriously.

Also, my utter lack of focus that keeps me from making better progress on "core" projects.

Absolutely none wargaming-wise.

Spending too much money and too much time painting up a period of figures and then never really playing with them. If I could just have the time and money back for the projects I am doing now!

Letting the years go by without shrinking the lead pile and knowing I will never finish it all.

Picking up Warhammer Fantasy a year before Warmaster came out. I felt my time investment precluded switching to 10mm scale, and probably missed the grand army experience I was looking for.

Not buying and painting more sooner. Still building armies when I think I should just be playing more.

Putting things off till "Later in Life", then, when that time arrives, finding out that you have developed newer interests and are busily working away on those The ever growing pile gets bigger and bigger.

No problem as long as I stop buying thins and commit to a regular painting schedule I can have every thing finished provided I live to 120

Recently? – Buying lots of figures in metal, in haste, only to have lovely plastic versions some out soon after!

Hobby regret. Due to a very good deal, I purchased 30 boxes of 1/72nd Italeri plastic Napoleonics in the first 2 years of my hobby life. 2 years later, I am having major issues with my eyesight and cannot paint that small. I should have gone 28mm Napoleonics. I still cannot get myself to give away/sell the boxes of 1/72 scale that are collecting dust.

Not discovering the joys of 2mm and small gaming spaces earlier.

All the time I away watching crappy TV instead of painting.

OH! Not Hiring people like Blake to paint my grunts/Rank and file figures sooner!
