I got the email today but wasn't able to open the pages for the rules because of work. I'm definitely going to check them out. |

Downloaded the PDF and giving it a look over. I will also download the army lists although all my Warhammer armies do not fit the profiles with the exception of two. I have Bretonnians and Dogs of War which would be usable with the human list. My Chaos and Lizardmen would have to proxy as something else. I do have a small Undead force that could be used in small games. |

I think they are hurting themselves by not releasing full army lists. The ones for free are only about 70% of the full list. |

How are they hurting themselves? Everything should be free? |

Well, everything for v1 WAS free. Say I'm a new player, looking to see what this whole Kings of War thing is all about. I have my old WHFB army collecting dust and I want to see if I can use it for this new game. I take a look at the army lists, and only 2/3 of my army is on there. "Pfft!" I say. "I'm not playing this half assed game!" But in reality, all my army is usable in the full army lists. It's not like the full army list are not available – kow.easyarmy.com has everything in their army builder (which is great, by the way). But a new player is not going to know that. They are only going by what they see in the official free rules. If the free rules are a lure for new players (and that's what Mantic says they are), then Mantic should put it's best foot forward, with full army lists and some actual artwork in the free rules. Keep the fluff in the physical book. Corvus Belli seems to be doing pretty well, and they have full rules and army lists online for free, with art. But if you want the fluff, you have to buy the book. |

Good points. Nice to know about easyarmy. |

OK, let me see if I get this right….Mantic releases the core of their updated rules AND Army lists that are 70+% complete for FREE. Giving you a game system that can be played and enjoyed completely….for FREE!! And this is hurting themselves? The only thing I can see that might hurt them is giving so much away…..Why buy more? I am a new player of KoW, learned how to play last month at ORIGINS. Liked it so much I bought one copy each of the 2 previous starter sets. Now they give me the new rules and army lists….. To show my appreciation and support, I'll buy a hard copy of the new rules when they become available….. All because they offered it to me…for free….. Just my 2 cents, Dave |

I'm in the Kickstarter, so I am getting a ton of stuff. :) |

I know what you mean. I was shocked to see the Orcs' Morax unit missing. And the Dwarf Rangers and contraption machines. And no twilight elves at all. If you search the mantic forums, there are links to the full v2 beta army lists. I don't know if they will be the actual final lists, but they do have all the new troop types from the KoW Kickstarter and adjusted point costs on some of the previously existing units. So they should be good enough |

Twilight elves are being held back until they do the additional armies supplement. Hopefully they'll get new models at that time. The metal plastic hybrids weren't so hot. Anyhow, they're giving away the rules and army lists so they can sell books. It's not a crime. Their books are pretty reasonably priced and if there wasn't anything in them that you couldn't sell for free they wouldn't make any money would they? |

I don't think the issue is really that they hold something back. From what I can see , they dont tell you they are holding something back. |

Reading the home page they tell you exactly that.
To allow you to try the rules, we've also supplied large extracts from each Force List for you to sample the different units and heroes. The softback rules will cost £9.99 GBP with full army lists. I'm in. Thanks for the tip about Easyarmy. The 2nd edition lists are at kow2.easyarmy.com |

I'm in the Kickstarter, so I am getting a ton of stuff. :) Same here. In for $300 USD with the Kickstarter and going to get far more stuff from Mantic then I could get from GW for the same amount of money. Oh and it is not AoS. |
