I bit the bullet and played a couple of games of Age of Sigmar.
And enjoyed it more than I expected (or possibly hoped).

Thanks for the Bat Rep and pix. Nice job.

I've seen much weeping and gnashing of teeth on the interwebs recently over Age of Sigmar. I'm not a GW fan/player at all, but oddly enough when I saw the info, I ordered the starter box. Four pages of free rules, some decent models, seemed like a deal. It will bring some variation into my current gaming group.

Now I never played any edition of WHF, so I have nothing to compare AoS to, but I don't get all the hubbub. Free rules, simple mechanics, free army lists, smaller model count, seems like GW is getting with the times and trying to draw in new fantasy players. I for one am looking forward to trying it out.

Worse come to worse, I'll use the models in some other fantasy skirmish game.

A lot of people see it as a new edition of WHFB. They are disappointed.

If you see it as it is intended, a very casual and fun high fantasy miniatures game,
It seems to be more of a new edition of Realm of Chaos warbands.

I'm looking forward to getting my starter set tomorrow. I have some neat ideas for the game that I'm thinking will tie into the back ground. Then, hopefully, the Chaos models will hit the bargain bin pretty quickly and I'll get a decent sized army together.

Excellent write up. Thanks.

Thanks. I have never Warhammered fantasy, but I have an interest and I know about the controversy of AoS. Thanks for such a balanced, reasoned and detailed report.

Four pages of rules and a short mid-week evening game might be enough to make me jump and have this as a lite go-to system – perhaps in that regard, it is a t least working on one area of the potential audience.

Thanks all, glad you found the post useful.

Personally I'm much more excited by Frostgrave than I am by AoS – but it's certainly worth a try (and it's free!)
