Someone asks: "Just as a matter of interest-how does the membership of TMP breakdown in relation to UK, USA ,Australia and others." Hard to know. If you look at the membership stats: TMP link then you can see how people have set their currency preferences: 72% U.S. dollar 13% British pound 6% Euro 3% Australian dollar 3% Canadian dollar 1% Sweden 1% New Zealand Probably overstates the U.S., as it's the default setting. Or, you can look at the poll on this subject from 2002: TMP link 62% U.S. 13% U.K. 9% Rest of Europe 6% Canada 5% Pacific nations 2% France 1% Asia 1% Germany "Some of the items posted are of limited use in UK e.g when they advertise a sale at a shop in Chicago" And the item today about a sale in St. Helens isn't that useful to U.S. readers... |

You could run a NEW Poll! :-) Bill, are you thinking St. HelenA? ;-) |

It would be nice to know how many are lurkers because it seems like a lot of non-US members posting. I would think most of the lurkers are US based looking at the stats. |

Sorry but I hate not knowing What is a lurker Rog.? |
Plynkes | 05 Mar 2005 2:12 p.m. PST |
I'm not Rog but a lurker is someone who visits a forum but never posts any comments, they just "lurk", reading what everyone else has to say. |

Doesn't your stats package do this sort of breakdown for you? All a poll does is tell you the geographical breakdown of the people that visit TMP and answer polls. |

Picky, picky, picky pixelgeek. |

Would a lurker who doesn't post messages or take the effort to answer a poll? Don't really no. The messages I post are few, the polls I answer are of my interest. But I like to read the topics and get information here on TMP (which I visit twice aday). Do I qualify as a Lurker? Would be a nice name for my sailingboat (which is american). By the way: I'm european. DJ |

It would make a nice change from being broken down by age and sex. |
E Murray | 06 Mar 2005 8:49 a.m. PST |
Yes, I'm really tired of being broken down by age. Being broken down by sex, though ... :) |
John the OFM | 06 Mar 2005 10:09 a.m. PST |
Yes, where can I sign up to be broken down by sex? I am always reading of some Oriental despot who was killed off by his harem, "skilled in the arts of debaucherry". Well, not ALWAYS reading... |
Scurvy | 07 Mar 2005 4:15 a.m. PST |
Sometimes your getting some more reading snacks out of the fridge eh OFM. |
Steve Flanagan | 07 Mar 2005 8:02 a.m. PST |
Not just Oriental despots, OFM. Wasn't that how Warren G Harding met his end? And a French President whose name escapes me at present. |
Scott Mingus | 07 Mar 2005 11:55 a.m. PST |
Harding died while travelling in San Francisco (heart attack, pneumonia, food poisoning - the exact cause is still controversial), but his name was linked with many alleged (and a couple proven) extra-marital affairs. One rumor circulating at the time was that Mrs. Harding poisoned her husband when she found out about the girlfriend(s). |

[Doesn't your stats package do this sort of breakdown for you?] By looking at IP addresses? Yes, but it doesn't know what to do with some domain types. |
