Title says it all really….anyone still play this? The ships have a great "Flash Gordon" feel. Anyone using the ships with other rules?

I'm still playing

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut09 Jul 2015 5:34 p.m. PST

I would like to, but I have neither the fundage to get started nor any opponents were I able to do so.

I have the rule book, but as pr mentions…neither the funds or time to do it.
We do a bit of Space Combat gaming with Firestorm Armada and a new version of Full Thrust already…I've been waiting to through another set of rules at the crew.
To field two squadrons and run a game at my LGS is a long term plan of mine.

I play it, it's excellent.

If you need ships for War Rocket, for cheap, try these:

The paint and play very well.

I have it, I have some painted ships, I've played a few times, Mark. We should get together.

There's also the old Wizkids Rocketmen figures too.

There were, and perhaps are some really inexpensive, rocket shaped items at Target, and I suspect other venues too, e.g. cheap, plastic rocket shaped sippee cups for kids, and/or rocket-shaped bubble ring containers.

Use as is, or give them a coat of paint, and use any minis you have on hand.

Not familiar with the rules, so can't comment on those.

Sadly I no longer play War Rocket. My buddy died a couple years ago and now I rarely play anything.

I picked up the rules several Gen Cons ago and was enamored, but never managed to rustle up a game. :-(

In my opinion, the rules were more innovative and engaging than the minis.

I have played a couple of times. Bought a bunch of the ships but have not painted them yet.

Loved the miniatures but saw how simple the rules were and decided to avoid getting involved. Only one guy in my group bought into it and he quickly sold off his forces after playing a few times and then seeing nobody else was interested.

Punk,

kitbash. Seriously. If you have any model aircraft drop tanks in your parts box for example, just add some gewgaws and cut some suitable fins out of sheet plastic and by that I mean whatever suitably thick sheet plastic you can scare up from the recycling bin. Add some bright gold or silver spray paint, add details with a paint brush such as round windows and such, and you're ready to roll.

This is how "VirtualScratchbuilder" and I were able to playtest the game to begin with, and I for one still have my original fleets kicking around my collection, as I know they're still perfectly useful for retro themed space combat gaming purposes (and they cost me next to nothin' except the time it took to built and paint them)…

I have a bunch, all painted up, just need opponents. I have so much other stuff to play it's hard to get it to the table.

If anyone has forces they want to get rid of, drop me a line:

I picked up a very decent collection of War Rocket ships from a garage sale; I have added Pirates to it since. I'm running a game next week. If it works out I may run something at Fall-IN!.

Coming late to the War Rocket party. Love the look of stuff. Is it free movement or hex based? (I have a black mat, but it's hexless)

surdu200514 Aug 2015 4:36 a.m. PST

I routinely run them at cons for kids, because the rules are easily grasped.

Hexless. Each fleet has very different rules for manuever so they "feel" very different.

Id say, 'that' is the biggest problem/ challenge w/ our hobby. "So many choices, so little time." And the 'latest-hot game', doesnt help.
Ive always said, if you 'really' like a game and can find a cpl or even just '1' friend who also enjoyes it, then Never get rid of what you have until your certain.. "Im done w that one."

Ironicaly it was RPG (D&D) that tought me that lesson. Saw so many get frustrated: every time you turn around they changed the rules.. version 1, 2, then 5 then..etc.
As Ive told friends and know a few that do this now; pick the one rule set your group enjoys.. and stay w/ it.
