Specifically the Adirondacks. I know the area is extremely rural but surely there has to be something going on in the area in terms of gaming? Yet another job interview for a college nestled in the scenic mountains and near Lake Placid. |

Wow, that would be a big change from where you are now. A lot more snow. Hope the interview goes well. You'll still have the east coast conventions. :-) Matthew |

Yea it is a huge change if the interview goes well and I make it to the subsequent rounds, and if I decide to take the offer if one is made. When the person in HR contacted me he wanted to make sure I understood where the college is and that the closest Walmart is an hour away. I of course told him I had done my research on the area. It is a beautiful place and I love the mountains, and yes I would have to learn to deal with long snow bound winters. Anyway as part of my ongoing job hunt I always want to check out what the possible game scene may be. Not that it would be a deal breaker but it would figure into my planning. Of course most college town areas tend to have some form of gaming going on. So I might just have to introduce some students to some alternatives and make sure to schedule vacations for the east coast conventions. There would still be some long drive involved, and Canada is not that far away. |

There is a large wargaming community in the Albany/Schenectady/Troy area. Its about 2.5 hours away, but that is the closest I know. |

Thanks guys this is good information. The job I am applying for is at Paul Smith's College so yes I will be making a bit of trip to come to South Glennsfalls or the Albany/Schenectady/Troy area. South Glen is just tad over two hours and the Albany area would be around three. Something I might manage on special occasions. TGerritsen that is an interesting convention devoted to GZG, wow who would have thought. Sounds kind of cool. That convention would be four hours and some change. I am beginning to realize that New York is a big state. Not that North Carolina is small but I think New York clearly has more land mass. |

It's close, Kim, but NY is slightly larger: NY – 54,556 sq. miles NC – 53,818 sq. miles |

The Council of Five Nations convention, hosted by the Schenectady Wargamers, is every October in Albany. They also meet there once a month for a club gameday. Great bunch of gamers. You can check out their webpage for details. |
