Any suggestions for a Wars of the Roses boardgame that would be suitable for a reasonably detailed WotR campaign with the battles fought out with miniatures? |

You might consider a "floor" for tabletop actions though. IIRC we'd do a move in 5 minutes, spend an hour setting up, play the game in 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat. |

Kingmaker. I played a Kingmaker miniatures wargame campaign a few months ago. It was a bit different though. It was a multi player affair put on by Steve R. and the League of Gentlemen Wargamers…………
……….and played out over a long weekend on a 30 foot long x 18 foot wide table. More info here: link |

The bonus with using Kingmaker is you get a fine political strategy game aswell. The map is very good for campaigns as most of the battles and major routes to London are there. The board and cards are themed really well with coats of arms all over . |

I like Kingmaker so well that I use the same system on my own island kingdom, complete with event cards and crown pack, etc., maintaining the same balance of events and strength of noble houses. Then I've gone ahead and modified what "troop strength" means as it relates to the wargames table…. |

Try The Perfect Captain, free online rules. They have a campaign system, with a miniatures game. One is called A Crown of Paper, the other A Coat of Steel. You don't have to use the tabletop game. |

Kingmaker a great game. Two problems: first edition (which I have) did not have grid coordinates for towns. When a card said "Smithersby to Chichersworth" the game stopped cold while the assembled Yanks tried to figure out where that was. Second problem: end game gets kind of strange. Each faction sits outside a castle of one of the enemy, waiting for cards to send him there. Then you crush him. Castles just ain't tough enough. That said, the game is a gas, teaches you about the period and the way titles get handed out. |
