This isn't about personal favourites or what you think SHOULD be hot…. It's about what you see others playing or keep asking you to,play.

What rules are they?

nevinsrip08 Jul 2015 7:30 p.m. PST

Musket & Tomahawks seems to be very popular.
SAGA is another.

I don't game, so I'm only going by what I see a lot of on the various blogs and forums.

Most of my con games are full when I run Black Powder.

dandiggler08 Jul 2015 7:44 p.m. PST

Black Powder, DBA 3.0, Battlegroup, Chain of Command.

D6 Junkie08 Jul 2015 7:47 p.m. PST

Waterloo

kallman08 Jul 2015 7:49 p.m. PST

Not a clue, we play a lot of Battlegroup Kursk, et. all., but that is our little intimate gaming group. From what I see at the local game stores nothing much in the way of miniature gaming is hot. A recently opened GW store pretty much pulled the 40K crowd from my favorite gaming store. There is a regular Flames of War group that meets there every second Saturday.

BBB and SAGA at our group in Austin.

Blake Walker08 Jul 2015 10:01 p.m. PST

Warmachine at my LGS. They also have a large Bolt Action group on Tuesday. Most of the WH40K gamers and FOW have gotten into it. Tuesdays used to be FOW night.

The WHFB gamers were bigger than WH40K players. I still game WH40K but am learning how to play Warmachine. But my WH40K gaming group is about dead. Warmachine has made major inroads here in St. Louis. They now have the national Warmachine Weekend in November here and they also hosted Privateer Press Weekend at Die Con 2015, too.

Anniversary themes are always popular, so Waterloo has just generated a big Napoleonic spike and being amidst the ongoing WWI centenary has seen a lot of figure lines come out.

Last week Plastic Soldier Company released their board / figure game for WWI in the Commands and Colors game series.

Judging by forums, I would say that the most played new boy on the block is Lion Rampant, which feeds in to the popularity of playing games that do not need huge amounts of figures to get going.

Martians and Victorian sci-fi seem to be pretty popular now.

snurl108 Jul 2015 11:34 p.m. PST

Bolt Action.

jdginaz08 Jul 2015 11:46 p.m. PST

Chain of Command my local group have been bringing in BA player left and right.

Fish09 Jul 2015 2:31 a.m. PST

Longstreet ?
Blucher?

Caliban09 Jul 2015 2:33 a.m. PST

Most of my gaming is ancients/medievals, and people keep asking me to play Art de la Guerre.

Martin Rapier09 Jul 2015 3:49 a.m. PST

What do I see other people at the club playing? The same old games they always have done, although the 'early adopters' subgroup seem to be playing a lot of Blucher right now.

Vast battles of the hundreds of 28mm figures which don't appear to move anywhere before it is time to pack up also seem to be popular. The 28mm guys seem to like TFL rules too. (TTMADB etc).

I seem to get asked to play a fairly eclectic mix of things, but in recent years a fair proportion of Neil Thomas rules, various versions of Command & Colours, Fletcher Pratt on the floor and 54mm Funny Little Wars and variants thereof.

Someone brought a train game along last night with carboard trains, which was nice to look at. I would hesitate to predict that cardboard trains are 'hot' or the next big thing based on that though.

Chain of Command and Malifaux

Lots of people going to try Frostgrave

Some interest in giving Age of Sigmar a go

mbsparta09 Jul 2015 5:43 a.m. PST

Bolt Action … Its the local cocaine of wargaming

Winston Smith09 Jul 2015 5:43 a.m. PST

I play regularly The Sword and the Flame, Age of Reason, Empire and Flames of War.
Yup. All the cool kids are playing them.

Acharnement09 Jul 2015 5:47 a.m. PST

Malifaux is sustaining its popularity with our group. We just had a successful 40K tournament. Several members are building and painting Saga forces so that should be getting some table time soon. And Age of Sigmar trial games this Saturday.

Andoreth09 Jul 2015 9:24 a.m. PST

Maurice, Zombicide, Saga and Skirmish Sangin.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP09 Jul 2015 10:18 a.m. PST

I think FOW is the main one at the store, but SAGA and Bolt Action strong contendahs.

As this is on a Historical Wargame board, I'll leave it at that.

I would say, based on how many postings I see on various gaming sites and that it hasn't even been released yet, the Frostgrave rules and figures.

(Phil Dutre)10 Jul 2015 10:36 a.m. PST

Age of Sigmar.

Mick in Switzerland10 Jul 2015 11:53 a.m. PST

Lion Rampant appears to be popular for Crusades and medieval periods

nazrat11 Jul 2015 7:32 a.m. PST

I have no idea. I don't go to the local stores regularly enough to see what's going on there (if anything).

wrgmr112 Jul 2015 2:49 p.m. PST

Usually anything that is new.
However our group plays some of the old standards.
