Gentlemen, I am thinking of gaming the FPW, using Chassepot and Needlegun. Does anyone know the figure scale in these rules. Many thanks in advance Colin |

Chasssepot and Needlegun was designed for 25mms. Works just as well with 15s. BN is the smallest unit. great multi-player game with a division per side and just as much fun with smaller games. IMHO, best set of FPW rules out there. you are in for some great gaming fun! Sam |

Sam, How many figures needed for a battalion?? Colin |

I believe it's 24 for the Prussians and 18 for the French. |

Colin, As Bismarck said, designed for 25mm but includes modifiers (primarily a scaleable ruler) for 20mm, 15mm, 10mm, and 6mm figure sizes. We've used C&N since it came out (and before when it was just a modified "Brom Standard" rule set). We enjoy it and have some fairly robust 25/28mm forces. Here are some battle reports using C&N rules from our old web site: 15mm: link link link 25/28mm: link link We had a monster game at the Colonial Barracks convention in 2012. Some pictures are in this blog posting: link (Scroll down to the "Defense of Beaune-la-Ronde" title image. We used figures from three different owners.) And in November 2015, we're planning another massive C&N game for Colonial Barracks 2015 [ sergeants3.com ] using figures from four different owners, some of which were used in the other games posted here. And as far as figures per unit: 24 infantry per Prussian/German battalion and 18 per French; 16 per cavalry regiment (either side); and batteries of three guns and 6 gunners representing a 6-gun battery. Commanders are regimental (1 figure), brigade (2 figures), and division (3 figures). Turn sequence is I go-You go. Movement is variable within certain limits set by dice roll. Fire is simultaneous by types. Melee is by opposed dice roll with simple modifiers. Morale of each unit is uncertain until first tested. Jim |

Colin, that Jackson gamer crowd beat me to it in answering! i game in 15s and use 16 fig Prussian, 12 fig french and 8 fig cav. Infantry mounted two @ stand and Cav single fig. 4 fig artillery base. basic rules work the same with this arrangement. i kept the same movement rates with reduction in infantry and artillery fire ranges. used 12" Needlegun, 18" Chassepot, 48" artillery and 36" mitrailleuse. Col. Campbell and that group were some of the original testers as well as some of our group here in NC. from your TMP name, when were you in the Corps? Semper Fi! Sam |

My friend has both sides in 25/28mm and I have played a meeting battle (he always seems to have the same scenario for all eras) recently at a local con. Not sure (but suspect) some rules modifications involved. Three "10" command roles (Turns 2 through 4 IIRC) paralyzed my troops in the center but had some good game experiences despite the command and control issues. |
