Sounds like something to do with all of those Axis and Allies ships I have. Need to add in aircraft for WWII. |

Our WW1/pre-dread version is based on Richs WW2 game. So far we've done Jutland twice, as well as Tsushima, Coronel and the Falklands. |

That's pretty cool, might have to try it out, thanks for posting. V/R, Jack |

Hi, An idea for aircraft 1 plane model = 1 squadron (12 planes) Movement = 20" Range = 2" Damage 2D6 – hits taken Hits = 12 AA before rolling for damage roll D6 to see how many aircraft were shot down. This affects the damage the aircraft does. To keep it simple all planes are the same. you could have a modifier torpedo or dive bombers. I don't know which was more affective. Rich. |

Maybe Torpedo bombers and Dive bombers are a wash? My thinking is that, dive bombers were generally more accurate, but the ordnance (usually a ~500 pound bomb) wasn't nearly as powerful as a torpedo. But then you get to the issue of it seeming like the torpedo bombers didn't make it to the target as often either, getting shot down by fighters and AAA. These are just my anecdotal thoughts on the matter, no research. With any luck, someone more knowledgeable will chime in. V/R, Jack |

I started wargaming in the 80s with a book called naval wargames by Paul Barker (I think). Movement was by squares, guns were '5' or '6' to hit and each hit reduced the hit points of the opponent's ship. Speed and guns were knocked off according to the ratio of hit points – i.e. 50% hit points meant 50% speed and 50% guns. There wasn't much more involved that that. I wouldn't use them now, but were the results that different from real actions? I don't know… The fundamentals were still there – aim to cross the 'T' and concentrate fire. Sometimes simple rules are still the best. Good luck with your '1 hour' project! Nick |
