"* Soldiers of the future will be trained using virtual reality headsets
* Their bodies will be protected with self-healing armour and smart wetsuits
* US military has developed a bullet that changes course on way to its target
* And microdrones will help soldiers explore battlefields from a distance

War has been one of the greatest spurs to science in history.

Developments as diverse and far-reaching as space travel, superglue, duct tape and microwaves owe their origins beneath camouflage netting and behind sandbags.

Today's military innovations, though, are focused not just on getting the job done, but doing so as quickly as possible and bringing the soldiers home to their families in one piece…"

"bringing the soldiers home to their families in one piece"

And, of course, we wouldn't even have to bring them home if we kept them home in the first place. I'd like to think that, after the last decade-plus of "misadventures," the powers-that-be in the US will exercise more restraint and forethought before committing troops to battle.

Nah.

That's crazy-talk, jpattern. How could I get more funding if I don't use my toys?

Wait, didn't they do a documentary on this a few years ago?
Universal Soldier, I think Jean Claude Van Damme was the host.

So all the stuff the 'crazy' science fiction people keep coming up with is actually in the works? Cool.

And I don't hold a lot of hope for the powers that be exercising any restraint. I read somewhere (probably on the internet) that in all of recorded history, only 200 some odd years saw no wars. And they were not all bunched up, either.

So what happens when the soldier dives for cover and has to get up again?

I hope they are still working on the TALOS, the Ironman suit too !

So what happens when the soldier dives for cover and has to get up again?
Well the HULC "suit" will be designed to make it easy to get up … see ?

So what happens when the soldier dives for cover and has to get up again?
The arm exos are a bit more complex to build, but most Soldiers and Marines will happily work out to be able to bench 250+lbs.
