"In one of the largest operations of the US-led coalition, airstrikes have targeted "Islamic State" positions in Iraq and Syria. There were a total of 38 airstrikes reported in the operation on militant-held positions.

The US-led coalition said the strikes against the group "Islamic State" (IS) had been one of its most sustained air operations carried out to date.

"The significant airstrikes tonight were executed to deny Daesh the ability to move military capabilities throughout Syria and into Iraq," according to coalition spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Gilleran, who used the Arabic acronym Daesh for the IS group…"

IS also counterattacked despite the airstrikes and retook Ain Issa. Dozens of Kurds reported dead and wounded….

Well, 38 is better than 2 per day, I suspect, but still pretty anemic if you want to deal effectively with the problem.

I've seen more aerial sorties than that for local wild fires.
