Hi, I've been working on this for a little while now and although this one features the Afghans at the Battle Maiwand it's the Brits that I have painted and ready but I thought I'd try it out with a few Foundry Afghans first. For anyone who isn't familiar with the battle, the 66th Regiment of Foot was just about wiped out trying to save the colours in what turned into a terrible rout only to be avenged later by General Roberts at the Battle of Kandahar. Anyway, I digress… The first pic is of the 'diorama' of the Afghan Ghazi Charge and the rest are tasters of many more Afghans that you can see on my Shooting Leave Blog here: link Please take a look. as i say there are a load of pics of the Afghan's there to view.

Excellent. I very much like your chosen colour scheme. Well done, really nicely painted figures. Pleased to see that you are aware and like the fantastic Iron Duke Miniatures range of 28mm Indian Mutiny figures by Paul Hicks. Hope to see you tackle them one day, soon. |

Beautiful work as always, Darrell! But inquiring minds like mine still want to know: what is the origin of that awesome mountain background painting of yours…?!?! |

Thaks chaps- all comments are very much appreciated. Beautiful work as always, Darrell! But inquiring minds like mine still want to know: what is the origin of that awesome mountain background painting of yours…?!?! Ah…. that would be my Google Foo at work. If you send me your e-mail address (perhaps on LAF?) then I'll send you the pic I used for the background as an attachment MG. Darrell. And the last remaining pics of the Ghazi's from my Shooting Leave Blog: link
Please Note: the banner is not finished as of yet, it needs some Pashtun script adding. If anyone has any ideas then please don't hesitate to post here as I'm desperate to finish the banner off before I gloss it and then matt is done; like the rest of the mini's(?) Thanks for looking, Darrell. Hi Darrell, A good standby for Pashtun banners is the Shahadah -- the Muslim "Creed" declaring there is one God and Muhammad is his Prophet, which may be familiar to you from the current flag of Saudi Arabia. It's been in widespread use by various Islamic armies and armed factions since the end of the Seventh Century. Here's a sample image:
And here's a link to a page with a bunch of other versions, some circular, some more triangular: link Of course you can also find many variations by Googling around on your own. I look forward to seeing whatever you wind up with, whether or not you use this suggestion! |
