I am about to start four elements of Russian infantry wearing over coats and was wondering the best color and paint to use for the overcoat. I have read it was brown, it was gray, it was gray that faded to brown, that it was a gray-brown. All very confusing! So I am looking for suggestions and what others have used.

Thanks,

Terry

As with the Napoleonic era greatcoats, I would simply Google, "Soviet Greatcoat" and then pick the shade you like. There is no "right answer."

I use khaki drab and give it a wash with the GW Earthshade (whatever replaced Devlan Mud)

Thanks guys,

Yeah, with as many as were in the Russian army I figured it was pretty much wide open, but was wondering what most used.

I had thought of khaki drab, but felt that would reflect the British greatcoats that were shipped to Russia. I also considered Vallejo German Camo Beige, but it has a little too much green to it. I am seriously looking at a hobby store color by Folk Art called Mushroom, which is a nice mid-dark gray-brown.

Thanks again,

Terry

Depending on the factory it came out of, how long it has been in hte field and how much mud and dust it's picked up, I'd say you're safe picking a colour that looks good and makes them stand out from your other armies :-)
