We had a recent proposal to split the Plastic Figures Board into two separate boards for Hard and Soft Plastics: TMP link The discussion on this revealed that the apparent intent of the Plastic Figures board was to accommodate discussion of Soft Plastic Figures. But over time, more and more hard plastic figures are coming into gaming and the board is now getting flooded with those topics. The poll vote and discussion did not show particular support for a Hard Plastics board; those topics seem to fit in pretty well each in their specific period genre boards. For the Plastic Figures board to better serve it's original purpose, I propose we simply re-name that board the Soft Plastic Figures board. |

Why would the soft plastic posts not also fit pretty well into their specific period genre boards? I would have thought we had come to a point is which soft and hard plastics have pretty much equal status (I am being very kind here), so it seems what is good for one is good for the other. |

A Soft Plastic Figures Board can perhaps make some sense, for collecting them might be considered a hobby in itself. However, TMP itself isn't any Collectors Forum, but a wargaming one. As said, it would make some sense to still keep a Soft Plastic Figures Board, mainly due to historical reasons --but I can't see the point of creating multiple boards based on the stuff your figures are made of: Soft plastics, hard plastics, lead-free alloys, not-so-lead-free alloys, old-styled pure lead, polyurethane resin, non-polyurethane resins, and so on. If following this path, it would become possible now to create and split a similar number of model tank boards, depending of they being metal, resin or plastic (where would combined components models fall in, then?), and even later in function of these being multiple parts kits or fast build ones… Honestly, I'm interested on any kind of figures, no matter the stuff they're made of. Splitting boards that much would only decimate the info exchange among us, IMHO. Reduced to minute clusters, like cows in a corporate farm. I do prefer to the latter the huge chaos (and sharing) of a gnus herd Lluís |

As much as I would like to see as many boards as possible, as it adds to the general confusion and I am an apostle of chaos after all, Lluis makes sense. I hate it when logic persuades me to agree with the idea of fewer boards. |

Not necessary. Very not necessary. Doubleplus unneeded. More space taken up for a sub-niche that could be addressed within individual posts. No. Unh-unh. Fuggedaboudit. |

I think this is a great idea. |

Only if it covers 14.5mm scale. |

Also note that this is not creating a new board — just clarifying one that's been here for awhile, and is used. |

I want a viagra plastic figures board please :) Uh! There's one already? Its called the 'NSFW but you can look if you dare but be careful, plastic figures' OK I'm going to look now :) Of course I'm playing micky don't think there's a need plastic figures board to me and I think to others 20 mm /1/72 classical soft plastics which is an institution in its own right, the 'hard' plastics finds its own way amongst the hurly-burly of all the other boards just fine I think. Cheers |

I am entirely happy to discuss both hard and soft plastics in the same board. |

Fabulous idea. If proposed as a poll, I shall vote early and often for it! |

There is a plastic figures board? Interestingly, it seems there are actually two plastic figures boards already. One 'Plastic Figures' with a healthy 27 topics a month, and the other 'Plastic Army Men', languishing with 3.3 topics per month. So could I suggest that rather than killing the existing decent plastic figures board by splitting it in half, instead the Plastic Army Men board is quietly put to sleep. |
DS6151 | 06 Jul 2015 5:59 a.m. PST |
Except people actually use the Army Men board, so no, that's not a smart idea. If you're looking to trim things, eliminate the Napoleonics Board. Nothing of value has ever been posted in there, it's just a waste of electrons. |
