YouTube link series is not only accurate, it is well moderated and each episode is just the right length. I am surprised this has not been promoted here on the TMP before. (Well, at least I have not seen references to it.)

The link will take you to a specific week in the war. You can go back to the beginning or skip around. Each episode talks about events that happened during the week being discussed. I was amazed at the casualties produced early in the war! During the time when maneuvering in open country was prevalant- before the trenches- should challenge some perceptions that WWI is only a war of attrittion in the trenches!

The need to come to grips with understanding modern technology, aided by the belief that numbers just had to equate to victory added to the carniage.

A wonderful series well worthy of all the TMP-ers that have an interest in WWI! I hope you enjoy it has I have.

Thanks Tom.

Trench warfare in many was a response to the horrific casualties of early war maneuvers. Casualties in 1918 were also very high.

That is a good series. The presenter was in the same fraternity as my brother-in-law. It's particularly interesting because of it's chronological approach. I'm pretty up on WWI, but I keep being surprised to find that things I know about on different fronts are happening in the same week.

Amazing that this has escaped our attention for almost a year. Thanks, Tom, for bringing it to our attention.

Thanks for posting. This is a very good presentation. Some interesting clips including French Chasseurs that you do not see often. Too bad about the Brits in helmets in 1914.

I have been watching the BBC shows, Our World War, really good docudramas. Including on devoted to a tank crew in action. Like a "Fury" set in Great War.

Glad you guys like it! Am also glad to contribute something "useful" to TMP members. (and beat Tango at it, too!) (Smiles)

Jeff. I felt the same way, too. So many things happening within the same week. Just think of the logistical strain on the beligerant countries…..Not just the people at home have to be fed but so do all thier armies in the field,(including the horses) their prisoners…and what about replacing ammunition stores, replacement weapons, drinkable (potable) water, consumable supplies like medical, etc.? Truly, the unsung heros are those that ensure munitions and food are available, gotten to the right places at the right time and be able to do that under all forms of distress and friction from all over!

Good documentaries (like this series) just beg for more questions to be answered!….
