I decided to use the spare torsos and heads from the fabulous new Perry British Light Dragoon set (and some bits and pieces from other Perry and Victrix sets) to make Royal Horse Artillery Drivers, Gunners and Horse holders. They still need some tidying up, but you get the idea
Oh, and one head from Warlord. |

Wonderful. I love conversions to produce your own unique figures and these are brilliant. I did wonder if we could, at last, make RHA mounted gunners from this promised set. It never occurred to me to make them on foot as well! You'll need to sand down the boot tops on the mounted figures to make overalls of course. Easily done. Great! |

Hi Deadhead – thanks! r.e. the boots, I thought the same thing, I need to file them down. OR….embrace the boot! Didn't Drivers wear a kind of boot made of iron rods to stop their foot from getting crushed against the other horse? That's my excuse anyway Some more wittering here link |

Great, and inspiring, work. I have similar "irons" in the fire with the release of the Lt Dragoon box. I have visions of Bengal Horse artillery and various HEIC cavalry units myself. That's my excuse anyway Excellent (creative) thinking, IMHO. I think that this is the wonderful aspect of the 28mm "plastic age". The ability to knock together units whose uniforms & kit are just "non-regulation" enough for that campaign look. Happy "wittering"… |

They look great! I always enjoy your posts about your Waterloo project. Keep up the inspiring work. |

Lord Hill, indeed drivers wore a very substantial metal boot on the right leg only, as did most postillions of the time. I had been thinking of a conversion of the British hussars with Tarleton heads. They had the overalls but also, alas, the barrelled sash (murder to remove without damage). To be honest, drivers we do have in Perry. I admit neither coat they use may be right for HA. Much to suggest RHA drivers dressed as the gun crews until late 1815. What I have wanted is the gunners mounted! Here they are. OK, maybe the canteen and haversack could be debated, but I'll live with that! Inspired by your work.(Must get my Westfalia carriage and British Staff Officer done first though! |

Lord Hill, you have done great work here! I love to see conversions! I started building Napoleonic units in the 1960'a when we had very little variety. Scruby was producing a lot, but I preferred flats at that time – most were anatomically magnificent, uniform accurate, and endless variety. When Stadden (and Willie) 30mm figures arrived, I got serious in Napoleonics. Stadden (and Tradition today) did great British in a variety of defending line infantry (one advancing), two highlanders of limited use, hanging onto the Scots Greys in their famious charge at Waterloo, and two other highlanders = firing and on guard. French Old Guard Grenadiers advancing; line 1815 voltigeurs. Pavlovskis in various positions, and other units of minimal use. Conversion was the name of the game of we wanted line units for anyone. Today the plastics offer us so much more in possible variety. Well done! GdeP |

Well done M'lud :) planning to do similar (yes also my excuse:) what figure torsos did you use to do the standing poses? Very nicely done. Cheers and yes us plasicheads always enjoy this part of the hobby. |

Excelt conversons. My question is, can you save money on this? Or by the end with all the plastic boxsets needed to make them, it would have been cheaper to just buy metal? |

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. Deadhead – I look forward to seeing that Westfalia Staff officer, he's a lovely casting GardedeP – yes, I remember as a boy painting HO Airfix infantry green and calling them "Rifles" – I would have fainted if I'd been seen into the future and the present wealth of 28mm plastics. Zargon – the torsos are the early uniforms from the new Perry British Light Dragoons box. I've put the box together as 1815 dragoons so all these early torsos, riding legs and helmets are spares. The standing legs are Perry British infantry. |

Lord Hill, working on him today. He is a joy to paint as so well cast. This is just taken with a flash and poorly focused therefore….no reins, harness and a bit to tidy up…but he paints himself! Going to work more on the champagne glass too! The idea is to have him saluting my next project. Two lads in a post chaise carrying good news from Waterloo! I think he (or his twin) may well end up as Percy after some conversion

It's actually a very mucky glass right now. Here is the snag. A still life is only seen from one side. This must be seen from every angle.. I do not know why, but I started from the other side and, trust me, it looks like glass! From this side I need to redo all the reflections…but then………. The important thing is not to hijack this. The message is how good those RHA gunners/drivers of yours are, they are………brilliant. I can beat them…I am a God……..(watching this awful series Spartacus on a DVD for 55 mins every evening on the cross trainer…………it is "300" CGI meets loads of fit naked ladies…….all you could ask for) |
