Well they certainly look the shade of blue I have always imagined….the wash did work. A battery like this looks great. How I wish someone would make mounted gunners for any country (in 28mm)

I would paint the wheel rims though. Well worth a little more effort and better 3D effect.

I used to do black, even dry brushing silver, but that is parade ground stuff. A very dark brown seems better, even with rust and mud splahes……..

The cannon color for me is a sore spot. I originally had all my artillery in this color but changed almost all to the mid blue a few years ago.

I would bet you are both right. I have seen it more often shown as a deeper blue, which I would imagine was the parade ground new appearance. Much expert discussion here very recently on the formula applied to create the paint.

Fading must have lightened it and I doubt many guns looked like this after travelling Wavre to Plancenoit..

I think whatever looks right to you. There has to be that scale effect and they are seen in artificial lighting invariably.

I left a couple of carriages in the light blue only because it was suggested colors in this period changed and faded.

My view is that they should be a darker blue. These are just a little too pale blue even with fading.

I agree with Deadhead, painting the wheel rims would add just that much more.

Maybe this is the basic original color but a few months in the field and they they get dirty, and even if washed will get darker.

Wheel rims need at least to be dirty. and inside of rims too.

I can't imagine that the iron tyres would keep their pant beyond the first day of use over any road, I paint mine in metal and mud colour.

The massed look of those blue guns is superb
