Aside from some artists' depictions rendered by Osprey and Don Troiani, I have not seen a definitive source that specifies the color/type of metal used by the grenadier companies for each of the German units that served in the AWI. I have seen some depicted in brass, and others in pewter/steel (basically, silver colored). Can anyone help? Thanks, Don |

The grenadier / fusilier caps were the same color as the buttons, either (yellow or white) or brass or pewter respectively. |

There is a detailed description of Hessen-Cassel grenadier caps in the Buchsweiler inventory (in German). Is there any special unit you are looking for? I could send you a translation. Also helpful are the following websites: link (originally dating from 1769) link (dating from 1786) Another interesrting source dating from 1788 is: link |
