I saw this show on the Sundance Channel here in the States, and am hooked! It is kind of like "The Americans" in that it takes place in the Cold War year of 1983 but from the East and West German point of view. Young East German soldier Martin Rauch is "recruited (i.e., drugged) " by his aunt who is an East German agent to go to West Germany, assume the identity of a West German soldier (who is promptly and quietly assassinated) assigned to be the aide of a top West German general and relay secret info on American motives and actions regarding the Pershing 2 missile. It is in German with English subtitles and is riveting as well as humorous. Anybody else seen it, and what do you think? |

Never heard of the Sundance channel, and it's not on my cable array. Too bad, it sounds interesting. |

From the short time I watched it I didn't see much of military interest, more story/character based that a war show. |

Been meaning to check it out. I caught an ad for it while watching a Conan movie the other night that happened to be on that channel and it looked interesting. |

Like I said, if you like Cold War spy dramas ala "The Americans", then "Deutschland 83" will be not just a good fix until the new season of "The Americans", but an addition for Cold War buffs to look forward to on TV. |
