I can't do it. Painting takes too much concentration, and then I miss half of what's going on on-screen…

Do you paint and watch TV/movies?

Personal logo Saber6 Supporting Member of TMP Fezian30 Jun 2015 5:39 p.m. PST

I watch movies I've seen. Zulu. Waterloo, etc

chuck05 Fezian30 Jun 2015 5:39 p.m. PST

Nope. I find it too distracting. I prefer to listen to music.

Skeets Supporting Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 5:55 p.m. PST

No, I listen to music as well. Usually Accuradio on the computer, movie tracks or ZZ Top.

Extrabio1947 Supporting Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 5:58 p.m. PST

Here goes all my credibility…I watch episodes of Finding Bigfoot on Amazon Instant Video.

abelp0130 Jun 2015 6:02 p.m. PST

Yep! TV, HULU, Netflix, Youtube, preferably old '30's & 40's mystery, monster, thriller movies/shows.

Dan 05530 Jun 2015 6:13 p.m. PST

How about painting and LISTENING to movies. Usually the 10th time watching too.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 6:22 p.m. PST

Almost never; I find myself wanting to watch the TV/movie instead of painting, and I have a hard enough time motivating myself to paint without adding in distractions.

Gone Fishing30 Jun 2015 6:22 p.m. PST

I can only get painting done while listening to music, preferably classical. I need all the help I can get!

Knob30 Jun 2015 6:40 p.m. PST

I listen to audiobooks while painting.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 6:46 p.m. PST

Yep, but my TV is almost exclusively sports and the music only channels.

53Punisher30 Jun 2015 7:05 p.m. PST

Music only for me.

Personal logo ochoin Supporting Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 7:24 p.m. PST

I tend to paint late at night (midnight on) so even if I wanted to, I could not play music or TV & risk awakening the other inmates at Casa Ochoin.

mad monkey 130 Jun 2015 7:34 p.m. PST

Used to watch Law & Order while painting.

morrigan30 Jun 2015 7:59 p.m. PST

No. I like quiet.

Personal logo x42brown Supporting Member of TMP30 Jun 2015 8:12 p.m. PST

I need music to paint to but not to or movies.

Only sports, and with limited concentration on the screen. Painting and TV really don't mix, unless it's terrain.

galvinm30 Jun 2015 8:41 p.m. PST

Dan055 is right on the money.

I watch/listen to movies while painting. Over and over and over again. It drives the wife crazy. She does believe that I get my money's worth out of every one though. Have quite the library. Probably 700+. Still get to see each every couple of months. Time to stock up on new ones.

Forager30 Jun 2015 9:01 p.m. PST

I'll watch movies I've seen before, sports, and game shows while painting – all stuff that doesn't require much attention.

Striker30 Jun 2015 9:30 p.m. PST

I listen to the radio or podcasts.

Cyrus the Great30 Jun 2015 9:39 p.m. PST

Music or absolute quiet, unless I'm crafting with friends, then conversation.

Grelber30 Jun 2015 10:07 p.m. PST

Music only while painting. The painting room is upstairs and the TV is downstairs. I have done other projects in front of the tube, like making thatch roofs, cleaning off mold lines, and building a storage container for my buildings.

I like to listen to old comedy shows or something like "The Rockford Files" as you don't need to watch everything as it happens. Rugby can be good too unless its my team playing which I will sit and watch without other distractions.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP01 Jul 2015 4:13 a.m. PST

I used to warch movies but now my painting is in a room with out a TV. I tended to watch obscure art films or foreign film that had been dubbed.

Razor7801 Jul 2015 4:46 a.m. PST

I'm currently doing a COMBAT! marathon from YouTube while I paint WWII Bolt Action figures. I always try to have "themed" movies\TV shows on while I paint. This weekend I'm planning on painting some 15mm French Foreign Legion and I have Beau Geste already in the bullpen warming up.

Col Durnford01 Jul 2015 5:47 a.m. PST

I don't actually watch, more like just background noise.

I believe I know every word from Zulu Dawn, Platoon, Aliens, and Hamberger Hill.

BTW – Gods and Generals is actually very good as background for painting ACW figures.

45thdiv01 Jul 2015 6:07 a.m. PST

No tv, I get too involved with the story. I either paint in silence or with some music.

JimDuncanUK01 Jul 2015 6:14 a.m. PST

I'm pretty well deaf so I listen to not a lot!

whitphoto01 Jul 2015 6:16 a.m. PST

I can watch TV and assemble. But don't generally paint.

Old Wolfman01 Jul 2015 6:48 a.m. PST

Sometimes, though my visual position where I paint(the kitchen table),usually only allows me to hear the audio from where the TV is (living room).

jefritrout01 Jul 2015 7:19 a.m. PST

I tend to paint either watching sports or the news. Occasionally I'll watch a movie, but it is mostly sports.

The best thing to watch is American football. Plays take only 3 or 4 seconds and then you have 30-45 seconds to paint until the next play.

Jason O Mahony01 Jul 2015 7:59 a.m. PST

Paint and listen. Usually the films and series are ones that I have watched before though not always.

If something interesting is happening I may turn around to watch and then back to painting.

Rich Bliss01 Jul 2015 10:27 a.m. PST

Music or Conference calls. My painting has really picked up since I started taking 6AM calls in my basement mustard of in the office.

Weasel01 Jul 2015 10:28 a.m. PST

Occasionally but I usually listen to some soothing music, like Napalm Death or Bolt Thrower.

Cerdic01 Jul 2015 12:13 p.m. PST

No. I paint in my shed.

However, the bloke next door has a much more palatial shed than mine which has a TV. So I listen to whatever he is watching, usually old cop shows…..

Kevin C01 Jul 2015 6:22 p.m. PST

I tend to paint when my wife and I are watching one of her shows.

markmors02 Jul 2015 12:04 a.m. PST

I do the prep work to movies/TV.

jtkimmel02 Jul 2015 9:20 a.m. PST

For painting, I'll usually put on some type of sports, something I can listen to and get the idea of whats going on without needing to watch. For prep work, I'll usually watch something I want to pay more attention to.

Gennorm03 Jul 2015 12:15 p.m. PST

Very rarely, if there's a football match available via the net that I'm only vaguely interested in as I don't have a tv in the study/hobbyroom.

Wulfgar03 Jul 2015 2:17 p.m. PST

I'll paint with programs that I've seen, or with programs in which I have little serious interest. That doesn't always work out, however. "Breaking Bad" was supposed to be one I didnt care about, but with which I soon became obsessed. Ditto with "Madmen." Reruns of "The Office," or "Veronica Mars" work out fine.

I gave up watching Japanese or Korean TV/Movies, while painting, because of the sub-titles. Now I save those for drinking a beer on the deck.

Jemima Fawr06 Jul 2015 6:50 p.m. PST

I paint while doing my regular job AND listening to the radio… And the Memsahib says I can't multi-task…

PentexRX808 Jul 2015 9:08 a.m. PST

I have to have something on in the background. Mostly it is movies that I have seen so I can see the scene in my head while I paint. Though recently I found a Verizon app on my Xbox and can watch TV while I paint. So now I can include AHC and the Military Channel. But either way I only look up maybe once every few minutes when I am cleaning a brush.
