I have not seen the documentary but this behind the scenes look at the building, filming and destruction of a large model ship for a WWII documentary for the BBC is very interesting and really shows the model makers skill. YouTube link |

Thank you for posting FYI The actual show was part of a 3 part series called "Jeremy Clarkson: War Stories" was broadcast in 2007 It is on DVD and available in the K but I do not know if available elsewhere |

Well a friend of mine who is modeling slowly a show game of the raid in 1/100 pointed numerous unforgivable mistakes, considering the pain taken to do the whole stuff. They took Campbeltown appearance wrongly as pre raid, as if pictures of her hanging about in St Nazaire did not exist. The R N did take comprehensive efforts to camouflage it into the shape of a German destroyer. No more 4 chimneys but 2!!! Changed the shape of the bridge…. Btw there were two German supply ships in the dock crippled by the explosion. where are they? |
