I see a vendor in Spain (Green Stuff World) sells a set of "Marta Kolinsky" brushes; 5-brushes for about $15. USD Seems like a good deal; but there's an old saying about good deals looking a little too good… Google searching for Marta Kolinsky shows a few brushes for sale on EBay; but I'm not finding anything from the big brush manufacturers or retailers (like Escoda or Blick, etc). So I'm wondering if they're a lower quality Kolinsky hair, or is it something like "100% Genuine Rhinestone" (which is plain old glass); and are they re-labelled plain old red sable (although there are some very good plain old red sable brushes)? Anyone know anymore??? |

Isn't the "Marta" part just a brand name? |

Marder hair in this case, I think. In French they go as Martre Kolinsky. Or some Polish woman, but probably not. |

Looks to me like "Marta kolinsky" is just a synonym in some languages for "kolinsky" – see link "La Marta Kolinski es un animal que vive en el Norte de Siberia, en la Península Kola y en Mongolia". |

Marta (Spanish) (French Martre) is a Weasel (English), from wich hairs the brushes (in this case Kolinsky) are made. |

That makes more sense (thanks GurKhan and BelgianRay)! |
