I finished a squadron of 6 Ahtyrka hussars, i painted them wrong. The shako braid white, wrong belt, and brown instead of blue horseblanket. The braids were an easy fix. And the belts hardly show. But brown blanket is a biggy. they are glued on the base snd sand is glued on. I might be able to pry them off the base. But riders are superglued on, so have to repaint the blanket around the rider. I plan on 5 more squadrons. And it will look off to have 1 out of 6 with the wrong blanket color. |

Correct the blanket. Otherwise they will be the first to route when in battle. :) |

You must strip the paint and start from the beginning. That will teach you to be so careless. Or just repaint the most obvious errors and move in. |

Who ever looks at the saddle blanket? That's what was in the depot when they went in and that quartermaster gave them. |

Yep, leave it brown. No worries. |

I'm sure I can find a reference that says brown horse blankets…don't change a thing. Yep, took 5 seconds…Hourtoulle's Borodino book has them in brown. QED. |

I'd not notice, and if I did it would be of such insignificance that I wouldn't mention it. Aslong as the uniform is rightish. It's good enough for me. |

Never repaint. Move forward. Too much play time waiting and if someone says anything, well…. I guess those troops fled from thier army, or, if it is not part of that player's forces, they just became better units than the old Gaurd. :-) |

Life's too short. Leave 'em as they are and move on. |

The blue ones are at the cleaners, the browns are loaners… Besides, on campaign it was always make do. Leave well enough alone. |
rmaker | 29 Jun 2015 5:32 p.m. PST |
If I remember the recent discussion correctly, the switch from brown to blue was due to the 1812 uniform regulations. Want to bet how quickly those new blankets were issued? Especially if the regiment had recently received a new issue of the old pattern – or had a lot of them in depot. Leave them be. |
jeffreyw3 | 29 Jun 2015 6:02 p.m. PST |
Rmaker, yes that is correct, as I recall. Every time I get concerned about minor details in a uniform, I think about the ground and time scales in my favorite rules, and my fussiness passes. :-) |

It's kind of nice to have a unit with a difference. Trust me on this. No one will notice. The only one who cares is you. And we already gave you an out. Several of them in fact. |

If it really, really bugs you then just slap a bit of blue on in situ. If not, then leave it and move on. At the end of the day, they are just blokes on horses, as long as you can tell roughly what they are supposed to be, that is fine for wargaming purposes. I regularly swap Hussar types between opposing armies…. |

Strip and repaint! The other players will refuse to play if you have brown blankets and make fun of you behind your back. |

I had a brown blanket once … |

I NEVER looks as closely at a figure as when I first paint it. Partly because I'm blind as a bat. Once it's sealed it's done. I'll touch up or repair missing paint but that rarely ever occurs. |

I'd follow rmaker's advice and leave that one squadron with the brown blanket. If it does bother you that much, take a baking sheet from the kitchen, add water to a cover the base. Put your figures an let them soak for 24 hours, the glue with then be degraded and you can easily lift them off the base. |
Frederick | 30 Jun 2015 12:27 p.m. PST |
I agree with Martin – you can add a touch of blue in situ to make the unit more uniform but I would not make it a major project |
wrgmr1 | 30 Jun 2015 1:16 p.m. PST |
I agree with most of the posters here, when there's lots of figures on the table no one will notice. That coupled with the fact that most units would use plain blankets on campaign anyway. Leave them be. |
andysyk | 01 Jul 2015 10:31 a.m. PST |
Any QM or store man would of issued the old brown ones until the brown ones ran out before letting anyone have a new shiny blue one. Also no one would of been allowed to swap his old one for a new one until it was in pieces. Military store men the world over; new kit is to kept on the shelves until it becomes old kit; soldiers don't need new kit they will only break it. |

Minor items paint over, bigger problems strip em and start over. Done a lot of both lately. |
