"China has apparently built a previously unseen midget submarine at its Wuchang shipyard in Wuhan. DigitalGlobe satellite imagery dated 24 October 2014 showing the submarine was posted on Google Earth and was highlighted by a contributor to the Bellingcat open source intelligence website. The imagery shows the craft berthed at the pontoon used for fitting out submarines. The midget submarine had left the pontoon by late November and by mid-January 2015, another submarine, probably a Type 041 Yuan-class boat, occupied the berth. Based on the imagery the midget submarine has an approximate length of 35 m and beam of 4 m, suggesting a surface displacement in the region of 400-500 tonnes…" Full article here link

Or it's a test boat, like the NR1 or USS Dolphin (AGSS-555). |

Or they're preparing for a surprise attack on someone, like the Japanese did in Australia and at Pearl Harbor in WWII. Think of the trouble one or more of those could wreak on a naval base, if carried inside, or beneath a Chinese cargo vessel. Could also be very useful for littoral areas. |

If you were going to do a "Pearl Harbour" with a merchant ship – you would use a LNG tanker and hidden detonators – the ship, its crew and the port will all suffer. Bonus is plausible deniability. |

A freighter full of ammonium nitrate would do a similar number on the port and facilities. Just ask the residents of West, Texas about it. |
