I've gotten in 3 games in the last 2 weeks! And I actually won one! This is rather strange, I was beginning to think my mini's existed to take up storage space in the closet, but they are actually getting used, and pummeling my foes into dust (at least in one battle).

And I am using 28mm mini's, with 4 bases to a unit. I get some odd looks, but it works fine, and the 2000+ points battles look great.

This is why I got into miniature gaming- to spend time with friends playing a good looking game, and setting up some tactical challenges during the proceedings. I just hope it continues at a similar pace for the rest of the summer.

28mm Warmaster, what awesome general stands you could make!

I've played a couple of games in the last fortnight, first for many a time. I had to rebase all my figures first:

Undead against Dark Elves.

In the first game (1000 points) I made an elementary mistake in using my General offensively on a Zombie Dragon. I was going fine, minimal losses, more than halfway to my opponents break point when I had left my General with a unit of Spearmen in a 2 move reach of some Witch Elves. They charged and game over.

Second game (1500 points), my chariots ran riot round the flank sweeping up the enemy, my 2 Sphinxes died horribly in the middle but kept the enemy sufficiently occupied to allow the chariots to finish off what they started. I kept my General on his throne well out of the way.

I can see a good few more games of Warmaster coming along this year as I finish painting the Empire and High Elf troops I bought a decade ago.

Anyone else finding Warmaster still worth playing?

I have often considered taking my 28mm Warhammer Fantasy Armies and converting them over to doing Warmaster. I once saw a game at a Cold Wars long ago where a gentleman from England did just that in order to run the Battle of Five Armies. It looked fantastic and all the players were engaged and having a great time. Of course I have nothing against running Warmaster in 10mm as that looks great as well.

Warmaster is to me one of the best designed miniature game rules ever written. If you can lay your hands on a copy or a copy of the Warhammer Ancients rules you will be glad you did. In many ways Hail Caesar! is the spin off of Warmaster which makes sense given both rule systems share the same author.

Yeah, we pull it out at least several times a year and play some games. It's ALWAYS a terrific time. One of the best GW games ever done!

We did 28mm Warmaster when it first came out because we had no official figures. Worked just fine after we scaled up the distances appropriately. I will suggest reviving it to the crew!

Give any random group of gamers a set of rules and the second thing they do is find some way of playing it with different figures. No criticism intended, after all next week I'll be playing Kings of War with 10mm figures as I haven't painted up a 28mm army yet.

@Acharnement

My playing group allowed cardboard counters until everyone had collected and painted the appropriate figures.

Those were the days.

Yes I am using 28mm because I do not want to buy, then leave unpainted for years, 10mm armies. I've got the 28's painted and based, why not use them!
I am using the Ancient rules, with the addition of magic and monsters, as I like the feel of limiting follow-up moves. Soon I will take and post some pictures!

Brilliant. Conversely I play WHFB 3rd using individually based 10mm warmaster minis. Variety is a wonderous thing.

I have a massive pile of fantasy stuff going back to the eighties, some of which made it into HOTT armies but I'm going to be basing up the lot for 28mm Warmaster on 50mm bases. This basing will, of course, work for loads of other systems but Warmaster is what is causing the excitement at the moment along with a recently aquired 'Battle of the Five armies' rule book.
Here are a couple of units at an early stage.
