Who makes the best sci-fi infantry in 6mm/1:300/1:285/microscale?

pigasuspig28 Jun 2015 6:09 p.m. PST

I made some Exodus Wars human infantry in long coats and gas masks: they were fantastic: good poses, fun to paint.

Onslaught also looks great but I've never painted them. Same with Troublemaker.

Mute Bystander28 Jun 2015 6:27 p.m. PST

For diverse variety of factions there is always Ground Zero Games. Newer sculpts seem to appeal more to many.

Weasel28 Jun 2015 6:41 p.m. PST

The best? Hard to say.

The Darkest Star guys have some pretty good variety though they are a tiny bit spindly.
I like that they are pretty realistic looking though.

Angel Barracks has some of the most characterful figures in the scale.

I also have a big pile of Troublemaker Games figures and they are a very nice middle ground. Very distinct detail and sort of in the middle between spindly and chunky.

Covert Walrus28 Jun 2015 6:47 p.m. PST

I'd split between GZG and Onslaught for sheer detail, casting quality and sculpting.

I'd also say that Scotia Grendel hold up well on casting and are excellent value as well, and are good looking even with minimal painting skills applied :)

I really like the Renegade Legion miniatures from PFC in C. Out for a long time but outstanding mini's. Plasmablast vehicles are also quite nice. For infantry, Darkest Star Games Dark Star minis are excellent.

I like the GZG 6mm figures.

Gaz004529 Jun 2015 7:16 a.m. PST

Brigade Models have some very nice powered armour infantry too……..

Well let me do this again … evil grin … The Best, IMO – DRM, SCP/Exodus Wars, Onslaught, MicroWorld, CinC/PFC, TMG, GZG, Angel Barracks, Brigade, Darkest Star, Khurasan and Old Crow[if you can get hold of Jez ?], not a real fan of Irregular or Scotia … And of course there is always GW Epic on eBay …

Who asked this joker29 Jun 2015 10:11 a.m. PST

The original GW Epic was quite fun. Simple, silly beer and pretzels goodness. Figures are quite nice!

Weasel29 Jun 2015 10:24 a.m. PST

The GW figures are quite good but tend to be pretty pricey when they do show up nowadays.

mdauben29 Jun 2015 10:56 a.m. PST

I see quite a few recomendations for GZG 6mm infantry. Unfortunatly, GZG evidently can't be bothered to post pics of most of their infantry figures (sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine, there's no reason in this day and age not to include pics of miniatures if they expect me to buy them). Has anyone posted a complete or even near complete set of photos of their unpainted infantry?

GZG does make nice Infantry. I use their 6mm NAC for my Hammer's Slammers. You will find most of GZG's 6mm Infantry unpainted, in my Photobucket … I thank my Buddy Cuban Commissar for taking them ! link Also check out CinC/PFC's SEM line, DRM, SCP, Onslaught, MicroWorld, etc.. As well as all the others I listed. I use mix of Infantrymen in my 6mm Sci-fi forces.

Mute Bystander29 Jun 2015 5:22 p.m. PST

mdauben,

E-mailed GZG about that years ago and they basically said that it was on the list but as a one-man operation (then, maybe two now?) casting to fill orders and shipping orders had priority.

boy wundyr x29 Jun 2015 5:26 p.m. PST

In general there's a lot of great stuff out there, but I might give the SEM line from CinC a nod for their diversity and quality. Angel Barracks also has great characters, which you don't get from most others (SEM has some).

SEM has a lot nice Infantry with more to come. And a nice selection of aliens as well … with more to come. And Onslaught is doing some very unique stuff too. Along with MicroWorld, DRM and SCP … You just have to look …

Thanks, Legion 4! That's a big help for me.

I've been doing this long enough to remember ordering off of xeroxed price lists, and requesting sample figures from manufacturers to examine their quality. In this day and age, though, when every company has a website and digital cameras are universally available, I'm afraid there really is no excuse not to post photos. If a company can't be bothered to post photos of their products, chances are I can't be bothered to order them.

Covert Walrus30 Jun 2015 2:51 p.m. PST

" universally available"? Like healthcare? They just hand them out for free?

I hate to disillusion you, mdauben, especially as you seem to be a contemporary of mine, but a good digital camera in my country will set you back about three weeks average wages. Have no idea what it's like in the UK, but i suggest it might be more given the taxes they have :)

Very glad to help mdauben …

Twoball Cane30 Jun 2015 7:12 p.m. PST

Gzg has some great minis and I have bought some often….blindly without seeing what I'm getting.

One can google 25mm phalons and get to see them from other people who have painted them…..but I would love gzg to snap some pics of the stuff in their lines. It would help me make my purchases, but to be honest it hasn't stopped me from buying…and being happy all around with gzg

Also Covert Walrus asked me about SEM pics … here's a link for some that are not on the CinC/PFC web page. Plus some future releases … link

I'm not sure where you live, so things could be quite different than I'm used to.

Even here a "good" digital camera isn't cheap, but to post photos on the web you don't need a "good" camera. In the US (and I'm betting the UK, too) every cell phone has a camera, most of which will out perform professional digital cameras from just a few years ago. And everyone but the most financially challenged has a cell phone these days.

The people from GZG obviously have access to a camera, since a lot fo their products are photographed and posted in their catalog. The fact that after years so many of their products aren't photographed isn't due to lack of cameras or lack of time.

Sorry for going on and on about this, but lack of photos is just a pet peeve of mine.

Covert Walrus06 Jul 2015 8:22 p.m. PST

Mdauben, understand, my own pet peeve is US citizens coming up with simple one-sentence answers to other people's problem s like when i point out my net access problems through this country's copper wire telecommunication network, they just say "Buy a better connection". I tend to be sympathetic to other's troubles, liek one manufacturer who can't even sell their goods because of the national debt crisis.

On that topic, how about Plasmablast's infantry? it looks good on the wesite – anybody seen it firtshand?
