Do you paint wakes on your ship bases?

* yes
* no
* I don't base my ships
* I buy bases with wakes already on them
etc.

yes

Jcfrog27 Jun 2015 1:38 p.m. PST

Yes. Probably wrong 1/2 the time, either too much or wrong shape. Looks ok though. It is quite useful to see the ships and esp,. Which way they go from a distance, or in my case as they are 1/6000.

Yes, always. Also try to paint in bow waves. This is for 1/3000. Gives impression of moving vessel rather than static model.

Yes.

Way back in the 1990's I learned that I had to base my ship miniatures as it was the only way to guarantee the players wouldn't pick up the ships by the masts or gun barrels.

I also learned I had to paint bow waves and wakes on the bases to guarantee that all the players could tell which end was the front. Even on ship models that I thought were pretty obvious.

Over the years I discovered another advantage of this method: nobody else did their bases like mine, so when several of us brought miniature ships for a game, at the end when everything was picked up to go home it was pretty obvious which ships were mine.

Naval bases are usually a no-wake zone …

My bases have them cast on, so yes.

Yes, I paint wakes and because I'm a kinda sloppy painter of wakes, also bow waves.

Yes, though the wakes are generally short since the bases only extend about 2mm behind the ships.
