I have given in, I can't resist those Brigade games 1812 Americans any longer !! This leads me to a question, I will use Front Rank for the Brits but would the Front Rank Brits in stovepipes be suitable for Canadian line ? I know Brigade do some round hat types that I could use. Thank you. |

Pre-1812 Brits would be fine for the regulars for most of the War. With reinforcements in 1814 you would begin to see 'Belgic' shakoes appearing. |

It depends what you mean by "Canadians " and where Canadian Fencible Units would have been part of the Army's supply system so would have received issues of the new shakoes by 1814. Incorporated miitia units could also have received the new issues by 1814 as well, Non incorporated Militia would have had a variety of headgear wearing basically what they could scrounge. This sstem was not rigid as "Canadian" units in Lower canada ( Quebec) and the Maritimes were usually very well equipped and some like the Quebec City Militia had a reputation for a good turnout and often had a better turn out then the Regulars. Units further west were essentially in a frontier situation where supply lines were difficult to maintain so there would be a lot of variation Don't forget that Artillery would have also switched from Stovepipe to Belgique and Cavalry from Tarleton to Shakoe For a good selection of 1812 Uniforms from both sides Check here history-uniforms.over-blog.com/# |

As the previous have stated and I would add that it depend on what type of Militia IE sedentary, flank competencies, incorporated militia and fencibles. Further it depends on the year, for example some troops in the I.M.U.C. battalion went though the Round hat in 1812, stove pipe in 1813 and Belgic in 1814. The best source for this detail is " A Scarlet Coat: Uniforms, Flags and Equipment of the British in the War of 1812, Rene Chartrand, Service Publications, 2011. and British Forces in North America 1793-1815, Rene Chartrand, Osprey MAA 319. |

Canadian, the guys who actually won something out of this stupid war… Interesting conflict none the less. Canada has reasons to be proud of their fight in this, as an American, I say this without reservation. |

Or you could wait until our release in early August. Could be sooner but with Historicon and personal vacation it could be early August before I can release them. |

Or you could use KD figures now, then buy Brigade Games figures later and paint different units with different figures…. Can I please make a stump for Runchey's Coloured Corps as a separate set of figures… Eric |
