What if they fought for the Union? Does that count?

Since I'm English none of my were involved, but on behalf of my wife Gale:

James Shields, commander the 2nd Division of the V Corps, Army of the Potomac (subsequently part of the Army of the Shenandoah), during the Valley Campaign of 1862. He was wounded at the Battle of Kernstown on March 22, 1862, but his troops inflicted the only tactical defeat of General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson during the campaign (or the war).

Yes, the loyal Americans who fought to save this country do count.

Yes, I have two ancestors, brothers, who fought with the 26th Georgia from 1861 to 1864 when one was KIA and the other wounded and captured at the battle of Monocacy. I will email you their details. I would urge everyone to give the web site "Fold3" a try. I was able to find copies of enlistment papers, muster rolls, pay slips, hospital admissions and many other obscure records. They are a bit pricey but well worth it if you are interested in veteran service records of all wars. I found everything I was looking for during a trial membership and was able to avoid the annual fee.

If you would to feature this ancestors, please contact me at info@acwgamer.com.

RAF, if you had an ancestor about the RMS Trent, I would certainly feature that! Or if you are descended from Arthur Fremantle, that would be an interesting story!!!

John stretch senior, john stretch junior 6th Missouri vol cavalry, John senior was my GGgrandfather, his son John junior my Ggrangfather. John senior was mortally wounded at Mine Creek-little Osage in 1864 and dies in hospital at Ft Scott Kansas, buried in the old unmarked area of the cemetery there, John junior moved the family to eastern Kentucky after the war, his brother Perry (also of the regiment we believe) married a welsh laundress and went to Oregon when the regiment was mustered out of federal service. In Afghanistan in 2005 I met a Stretch from Oregon ( the only time in twenty plus years I ever saw another Stretch in uniform ) imagine the odds.

That is a great story Clay's. It is interesting how our paths cross in history.
