Hello,

I am hoping that the throbbing brain that is TMP can help with a uniform question (an sources).

I am trying to find out what the Italian forage or undress cap worn in the field occasionally in Ethiopia in the 1880s and 1890s looked like.

Does anyone have info or links to pictures of the undress cap worn (I seem to remember seeing a picture once f an infantryman in a white uniform but the blue forage cap worn in Europe but cannot find).

I am all googled out. Any help would be much appreciated!

The undress cap is basically a white kepi that was worn in Eritrea etc by the Italians.

I believe it was designated the M1887 field cap and was predominantly white.

Does anyone have pictures? I seem to remember it being a cross between a Kepi and a classic Captains cap.

I researched this at one point, you might want to take a look at this website:

I think they had a kepi-like shako, that they could wear a white cover over. In addition there's a rarely seen "fatigue" cap, that was blue cloth, here's a version of it: link

But I know I've seen a painting from the late 19th century that showed it better.

A search for: berretto da fatica 1880 -- did bring up a few promising results.

(strangely duckduckgo seems to bring up better results than google -- that's rare in my experience)
