Hosted by Mark Anderson & Robert Loken using their soon to be published rules: Charge! Eagles Rising. Figures are 15mm Heritage Napoleonettes with some Minifigs. We had 19 players come to Rockton, Illinois to play; one from Texas and one from Pennsylvania with the rest from the Northern & Central Illinois area and Southern Wisconsin.

This was a Battalion per Battalion refight of Waterloo. Each battalion, Squadron and Battery were present. A great game with great players, a close British victory following the historical outcome. This was played in my garage June 19-20. Part of this game will be played at Historicon in July.

Mark,
What day and time will your game be played at Historicon?
John

Yes indeed…. I cannot locate such in the Historicon PEL either.
From review of the PICs it looks to be on the lines of Empire, is my first guess. Would the rules be a fast play version or more of that of LoG?
Is there a brief description some where of how these rules play out and what makes them potentially successful for a large multi player battles while playing/moving individual battalions? There must be something good, if folks traveled that far to play them!

Excitedly waiting….

MG… out

John/MG,
Thanks for the kind words. We should be listed as d' Eron's attack at Waterloo, Thursday at noon; we will only use part of the battlefield.
The rules used (Charge!!! Eagles Rising) is an Empire style grand tactical rules set written by myself and Rob Loken. It uses figures mounted for Empire or Napoleon's Battles. It plays very much like Empire but without the headaches. The mechanics are dead simple but they do model the activity on the battlefield very well. We played Waterloo in 11 hours with 18 guys. We plan to publish the rules in the future, hopefully this year. We've been testing and amending them for a couple of years. I started writing the rules so we could play with our figures. We all played Empire in its heyday but drifted away when they got so complicated. I always thought Empire was revolutionary for its day, we wanted to have that style of game but playable, we have that in these rules.
Thanks,
Mark
Hope to see you at Historicon

This battle was great fun and Mark is a great host. I was very impressed with the rule set and am looking forward to their release.

Duke Seifried commanded the French 2nd Corps and our left flank "feint" turned into a full scale attack. There were actually 2 battles on the flanks with the center somewhat idle. There were several comments from guys playing either flank that they didn't know what was going on at the other end!

As in the actual battle, the onset of the Prussians onto the French right flank determined the outcome. It could have played longer and turned from a north-south fight into an east-west battle but the units on the French right flank were in danger of being squished.

Thanks again, Mark!
