You pick up a scifi game to use with your existing armies. Do you want a few sample units and then figure the rest of it out? Do you want a huge selection, so you don't have to do very much foot work? Do you build armies to fit the army list in a game or do you find ways to fit the army list to your army? Not that I'm working on something where this would be relevant.. |

Right… pay no attention to the game designer behind the curtain. I prefer sample lists and fitting the army list to my army, but I may not be typical. |

I guess a follow up question might be: Do army lists in games inspire you to build new armies, or do you go into it with your existing collection, looking to field that? |

Some sample armies following generic tropes would be cool. Your classes in Clash on the Fringe are a good start. Maybe follow these up with some prestatted unit types and obvious weapon and equipment choices. I'm thinking something akin to the army lists in the red Rogue Trader compendium book and maybe just short of the lists included in the 40k 3rd ed rule book (before too many special rules started interfering with the game engine). |

Rather than Army lists I prefer Orders of Battle or Tables of Organization. Then scenarios rather than points |

In this context, "army list" could be a TO&E as well, not just a points system. I should have clarified it more :) |

What I look for are some army lists that have been play tested so I can try the rules out right away. For SciFi I'd look for something like: - Imperial Armored Space Marine Troopers
- Rebel Scum
- Lizard Men
- Big Ogre Face Eating Monsters
Of course play testing and publishing new army lists is a great way for the more mercenary game designers to *coff coff* generate interest, sales, and eventually TAKE OVER THE WORLD! And to me an army list is a TO&E with fluff: "Orgaznied in squads of nine men with an NCO, The infamous Red Shirts are among the bravest in the galaxy. Given their casualty rates and inability to hit the broad side of a barn – from the inside – with a phaser, they have to be." |

I thought the goal was to publish the beta version, then release the playtested version as the "revised edition" :-) |

And then take over the world? |

Official miniatures only of course :) |

I like some sort of TO&E and maybe a few examples with a bunch of flexibility. I'd like to know that gun, "X" does, "Y" damage and has an optimal range of,"Z" and so on. Not; team, "A" would never side with team, "D" or use any other equipment unless, my opponent or I made their units that way. |

Using Tomorrow's War as an example, I'd like at least TWO "here's how we statted force X", ideally one high-tech and one low/insurgent. And then example unit orgs for a few units in the background. |

Appreciate the info guys. So enough to get things started and put mini's on the table with no prep work, but not necesarily a hundred pages worth. |
